THE J. B CABY & CO.’S
‘‘NONPAREIL FRENCH GUANO”
W HICH Is now offered to Plante re possesses quali
ties which are peculiar to it alone, and render it
far superior to any other known, as has been fully
proven by the 4 ‘ French Academy of Sciences," and
also by practical persons of enlarged experience in
every department of Agriculture.
Among the meritorious qualities which peculiarly
distinguish the " Nonpareil French Guano," may be
enumerated the following: . .
1st. It will promote the growth of Cotton,Corn, To-
bacoo, or any. kind of grain or vegetable, equal to A
No. 1 Peruvian or Mexican Guano, as has been fully
tested, at tho same time being entirely free from the
objectionable properties of the above, an it is a Perma
nent Improver of the Soil, instead of a stimulant.
2d. It can be applied to the leaves as well as the
loots or plants, without any danger of burning them,
if used properly, and we guarantee that wherever ai>-
plied the soil will retain its moisture, and will noi
bake, even the most clayey.
3d. It will prevent Worms or Insects from destroy
ing either plant or grain, and where/er it is applied
every kind of worm or insects will instautly disap
pear, its properties being repugnant to insect life ot
every kind. This quality alone will be a great benefit
to agriculture wbeu it is estimated what vast numbers,
as Southern planters know, have lost their crop by in
sect depredations.
In a circular it is impossible to fully enter into the
merits of the “ Nonpareil French Guano," but we as
sure the public that wo have -not exaggerated, and it
only remains for those interested to test its value,
when we feel confident that it will rapidly supercede
all others.

(fonts: As to the action of the Fertilizer, I have
beeu highly gratified. Its effects have been very dis
tinct ut every stage of the prop, and its proprietors
have heed peculiarly fortunate iu the productiOB
of a Fertilizer that is equally beneficial on corn
aud cotton. It Is qnire stimulating aud yet mild,
pusaeaauig the advantage of gnaeo (Peruvian)
in tbe first, aud superior to it in being free frbm
the houtiuK; burning edbet, so disastrous In a drouth.
My experience is that this American gu.tuo is too
slow in its acti na lor coru, but it hi excuUqut foepot-

phates aud less of amuionia than thu Peruvian. This
arxunnts for the quicker action of the Perovisn spun

What will be tbe iuttuenceof the Eureka remains to
be seen, as this is my first year’s trial; but my obser
vation so far is, that no manure cau be happier iu its
effects on tbe crop at every surge of Us progreee Such.
I tbink, is the impression or others who have tried it
in this seel inn, with whom I have conversed.
I have only used it this yearun coru and cotton, Ihe
yield of which, I think, would have beeu doubled and
even trebled if tbe seasons bad been favorable. But

hence whatever may be the result of the year’s labor,

affected. I want to try it upon turnips tills

Gentlemen: According to promise, I give you the
result of experiments made this present year with
the five tons ol “ Eureka Ammoniaied Buue Super

field of thirty acres of col too, two tons to the field,
being about one hundred and forty pounds lo the
acre. The field (stubble) was brokeu up well, and
the Phosphate drill) d by.h pd iu laying uB to ridge.
Several rows were leu without Its application to test

ance ot tie field could be discerned a consider Able
distance all ibe summer, ami plaiuly so in gathering
the crop. And I am confident that tile Phosphate on
the thirl v acres has paid uie fifty per cent.
1 applied a ton of ihe Phosphate to corn, after
he corn was up, Indore the first plowing, and die re
sult la tile growing or the corn was ihe same. In
order, however, to make a thorough test of u with
other Kertilizere, I procured Peruvian Gnano and
Pliteulx Island Uuauo. 1 applied the Peravlsit Bam
uo to one acre of corn, superintending it in person,
anil the Phosphate to two ecrenfry the elds of the
first, in nearly equal quantities apfiiyiug about nne-
lourtli less of the Peruvian. The result was that the
Phosphate equaled tbe Peruvian Gssoq. tbe eats of
coru being as heavy.
I have used several kinds of tbe mtay commercial
manures offered, and cumddfr the Kfireka tbe treat

as the Peruvian. 1 also tried it on watermelons and
vegetables with tbe same success: I should recom

T he “ Eureka Phosphate of Lime” is (according to
my observation) much mure HtimiUatlug than Pci u-
viiiu Guano, especially wlieu qppljew-qncWA’ I ap
plied one barrel (260 iMiund^oittbacfakss muds ball
or corn. Tbe preduedoh illil not half equal tbe pro
mise which the coru made during the first six weeks.
Mail tbe'same quantity been applied to tbe corn in
brokeu dix-ea, 1 believe tbe product would have been
doable wbat it was. The cbm Was planted in tbe
same kind iff laud that the cotton was, and at the
end of elk weeks was three limes as high as com
adjoining, four tost sad a half. Hail I then applied
more of the same manure it would have made an
overwhelming crop. But I had uoue of it left.
I believe that my laud, which would make six haii-
dred poinds of seed cotton, with the clay nut ex
ceeding six iuclwq from the surface, coaid be made pi
produce twelve hundred pounds by applying ibree
hundred .pounds of this Fertilizer. And i think it,
woold oe,best to rou a shallow farrow, sprinkle about
two hundred pounds per acre iu tbu furrow, and
cover It fip Immediately with a small Scotch or snovel
plow. This should be dons immediately brffore pat
ting in life seed. When tbf foUeu fi feed}’ fur lie
second or third working, about toe tfrat or mJdjld of
June ; mil a small plow near the cotton and sprinkle
in that furrow about one huudred pounqa mure to
the acre, hnd cover it Immediately. I think by pur
suing this plan, the co ton would continue to grow
sod be ,r until irost; otherwise it would take the rutt
in August, shed off everything, and die.
