Webster Co., Ga , August 11, 1868.
Mr. Editor :—On Saturday, the 8th inst., a
largo number of negroes from this and ad-
joiuiog counties collected at the school* house
in the settlement of Josiah Harrell,, to have at
barbecue, which was gotten up in their own
peculiar way, without the knowledge of th^
white ciiizeu9, except their white skiu
allies—the preparations having been made
white man to harm them in their enjoyments I one ’
won by tbs valor of colored men." so; nil
They stated that “the Democrats ought-to
have their heads taken off, and the time
would come when it would be done !’
These things I heard from tbe lips of the
speakers, and take the liberty to say Tt^at it
is time the whites were organizing tnehi-
selves in such a manner as to be able to de-
kni their homes and families: .' j
This meeting was herd at Spring Hill
School House, two and a half miles west of
Prestou, Webster county. Joe Harrell, E 4.,
granted them permission to' have a dinnernt
that place; and the Loyal League from
Lumpkin, Stewart county, being.-invited,
they came on armed and equipped with guns,
pistols aud swords, cheering for Grant And
Colfax; they were met by the Loyal lieague
from Preston, at Richland (better kno wu as
Boxackle) and returned together to ihoplaoe
hefote mentioned. “On tneir arrival at the
place, they gave three.. cheers for Joe Hdr-
reH,E=q.” ;
What thall we say of all this ? Facts are
stubborn things, aud white negroes are worse
than black ones. XJ . * .
Now, Mr. Editor, what ought to be the
of a white man that allies himself wittf-U«f-
groes who are seeking the overthrow of the
white people by extermination ?. You know.
as well ns I, -Mr. Editor, tbat the foregoing
IS frae to the letter, and you kbow further
Ui&l there are white-men here thatatand sidh
by side with tbese negroes, urging them on
to these consequencce; such, for instance,
as Mr. McCay, about whose premises they
have assembled, lima after time. Others are
known to be in like condition, .laboring night
and day for the destruction^of Ittmwhiie.TW
P It is time every man’s position was made
msoifest, that we may know who are our
friends and who are our enemies; for the
evd day i3 upon us and every man of mind
csd see it. ;
A conflict of races seems to, be a fixed
lsct. Every few nights the negroes
drilling, thoroughly officered. What does
this me in ? War, war ! White men, look
