ite not boldly and well defined. On the
tvlmlf we were disappointed. Tbe Vice Pre
sident does not distinctly avow or deny tbe
do. trine that a sinslr State may put herself on
her sovereignly and nullify an act of Congress
—he docs not approve or disapprove of the
course adopted by his party in Carolina—he
does not tell us distinctly how far ho is prepar
ed to sustain manufactures, and is silent re
specting internal improvements. We wish he
hud been more explicit, for it does not become
3 candidate for the Presidency—and we lake
it he is before the people in that attitude—to
circ a partial expression to his opinions or to
deal in mysticism—especially when ho comes
forward with the avowed dcs'gn of making his
sentiments known.—Constitutionalist.
Reasons why all sides should be satisfied with
the re-organisation of the Cabinet.—1. The
Clay opposition should be satisfied, because
thev were jealous of Mr. Vttn liuren, and
were averse in principlo to all Secretary suc
cessions and safe precedents; because tliey
detested Mr. Inghath, considered him a bad
mnn, and dishonest in hispohlicnl professions;
at’d such a Secretary ns a brisk Clav Senator,
at ihe lime of bis appointment, said, “ lie could
m.'ko at three strokes of abroad-axe out of a
block of buck-eyo”—liecuuso they pronoun
ced Mr. Branch to bo an imbecile, a 'hulking
Secretary, who could understand nothing un
less it were reduced to writing, nnd who, it
now seems, has not the faculty of remember
ing what he has seen in writing; and because
t’neydisliked Major Eaton for his stylo of com- l 'ce.
position, and his affoctiou for the President ;
and Mr. Berrien for his cruelty towards the
Indians nnd proneness to the Nullifierg.
2. The Calhoun opposition ought to be satis
fied, because Ihe “ malign influence,'’ ns they
cah'^d it, is expelled; beeauso tbo Magician,
wlu> brought so many plots to light, is sent
bevond the sens; because Major Eaton has
resigned the pleasures of the agreeable socie
ty at Washington; and because Messrs.
Branch, Berrien and Ingham, and their fami
lies, have escaped without disparaging their
honors, retiring to tlio peaceful retreats of pri
vate life, which they left with so much reluc
tance, and to which, for eighteen months, they
were so desirous of returning, being preven
ted only by the anxious importunities offriends
by whom they wero employed as note-lakers
in 'he Cabinet, to be subsequently used for
political effect.
3. The friends of the Administration (nnd
among the first, wo would includo Mr. Van
Buren and Major Eaton) out to bo satisfied,
because the President has got rid of secret
enemies who surrounded him, who destroyed
confidence in the deliberations of his Cabinet,
distracted the counrils of his friends in Con-
grass, and poisoned his private happiness,
and who were treasuring up false interpreta
tions of conversalions nnd false rumors, for ihe
ptirposo of impairing the President’s popularity
nnd of producing discord between him and
tho representative of a foreign Government,
nnd possibly, in tho result. misiinderslondinK
between the heads of the two Governments.
Tho personal friends of the President ought
especially 1o rejoice, beeauso tho re-organi
zation has brought around Ihe Executive,
counsellors, all distinguished by splendid Inl
et, and the highest attainments; each suited
to the station to which he lias been called, by
previous habits nnd application—each person
ally and politically attnclicd to the Chief Ma
gistrate, and approved ns patriots ardently de
voted to the cause of tho country in its hour
of peril, and actively engaged in promoting its
prosperity in Ihe season of peace nnd secu
rity. ..
We were gratified to son the President,
when first surrounded by this now Cabinet
die Heads of tho Bureaus of the several
Departments. His comitcnar.ee beamed with
the'satisfaction lie felt, in being surrounded by
the new aids, in whoso elevated minds, pure
warm hearts, and unblemished sentiments of
honor, ho could not but perceive the kindred
principles which would unito them in hnrmo-
nv and cnaliln them to commnwl the confi
dence of the rountry, ns they commanded bis
