injrwas harmonious,
their choice tor Gen.*
Colquitt very clear and emphatic. It was
obje ted to at the time and has since been
hint, d by • few gentlemen, that the meeting,
was not Urge enough to embody the senti
ments of the entire county. While numeri
cally small, this assembly was composed of

terested in the public good and who evinced
a spirit of coolness and fairness which can
not be impeached. It was no pocked meet-;
inp in any sense and if the multitudinous
friend jfof Gov. Johnson, or of any of the
nthet able statesman who are represented as
dwelling in our midst, did not respond to
the public rail of the county democracy,
why the fault lies at their own door. We
think, however, that the opinion of those
citizens who did attend the meeting can be
taken as n pretty fair sample of the trill ot
the county. The Athens Georgian, as i>
well-known, has been very pronouuced, from
the beginning of the campaign, for Gen.
Alfred U Colquitt, but we are anxious to
see justice meeted out to every man and in
our reporter's account can be found the
opiuiun of every gentleman then and there
expressed. Just so sure as the resolutions
favoring Gen. Colquitt expressed the sense
1 of the meeting, so we believe them to repre
sent the will of the county, aud just so suit
do we conceive them to foreshadow the choice
of the peaple ot Georgia.

PRESIDENTIAL OUTLOOK.
The States Very Evenly Divided
Between the Two Parties. A
[New Y erk Tribune, 4 une Mth.] -
Iu the coming Presideutiul election the
two parties will be more evenly matched
than they have been since the close of the
war. \\ itia the except ion of South Carolina,
the vote of the entire South, is confidently
e-unud on by the Democratic party tor its
candidates. This vote with that ot the tol
erably sure Democratic votes, and., of, New
York, lacks only one ot being enough to
elect a President. The contest will be deci
ded by the votes uf the doubtful States, (Jol-
o ado, Indiana. M* w Jersey and New York.
Tlut billowing table is based on the votes in
each State at the Fall election ot 1874, cor
rected in some instances by the returns of
later contests. Illinois in l->74 gave n
united Uppositiou majority of la.OUll, but
this included a large German vote, which is
always uncertain.
