ax Outrageous avi.
Last Saturday Mr. T. L. Haters
sent his wag >ns to Geneva for freight.
I’ltefirstouo loaded was stated on
ahead ot' the other two with a
colored boy driving. When about
two miles this side lie ovcv'ook a man
in the road coming on toward Mari,
on. Withoitt asking permission the
Stranger mounted upon the wagon,
very much to Ihe surprise o! the
driver who did not like the authority
lie assumed, but said nothing to him.
After riding bn apiece this fellow or
dered the driver tb stop, ami take
out one of his mules, which ot course
the driver refused to do, whereupon
got otf the wagon and stopped Ihe
team himself. The driver, a mere
troy, picked up a stick and showed a
disposition to resist such an imposi
tion, when the rascal stabbed the
t)oy with a knife jiist under the jaw
bone. I’he mm seemed frightened at
tvhat he had done and ran off. The
driver took oilt his inußs and
then started back to a house where
he could get the flow of blood
stopped, du learning ot what had
occured two dr three colored men
with wagons on behind ran forward
and found tha Wagon and team gone,
but on following the tracks in the
\tbods,found the team and the would
be owner ha'ted ill the woods some
two hundred yards from the road.
They took charge of the man and
guarded him until Mr.Rogers arrived.
A pistol coiiid l>d seen m his pocket,
but he made no resistance When
Mr. Rogers Came up,the fellow set up
and pitiful whine, declaring thht he did
not know what lie was doing. lie
gave his mnie as Kendrick and sai l
he lived on the Hagler place in Ma
rion. His appeals for mercy and af
fecting story v about being ie 1 astray
by evil companions and his resolve
to do belter, aroused the sympathy
of Mr. RogS'rs and ho fiunl'y permit
ted him to go.
The wonffd on the boy bl-d pro
fusely. but it is not serious. This act
in broad ddy-light, is a daring piece
of rascality. It is our opinion, that
if the gentleman had b-en denuded j
and soundly cow hided, it would have j
been the best thing for him amt the
country.

The case ot Dr. Wesley Jefferson
and Jim Simmons for fighting came
up last Monday. It will be remem

warrant for Jim, and in turn Jan j
sued out a warrant for Dr. Jefferson, J
Simmons was tried first and found
guilty and bound over to appear
next court under a hundred dollar
boud. Then Dr. Jefferson was tried
found guilty and bound over under a
$lO9 boud. This reminds us of
the tune when we and a brother
would be arrayed before our moth

which of us was to blame, she would j
whip us both to be sure to get the
rightjone.
