Dr. Bull’s Cough Syrup has
been before the public for years,
and is pronounced by thousands
superior to all other articles lor
the cure of Coughs, C^lds, Influ
enza and all Pulmonary Com
plaints.
Many Thanks*
We return our thanks to Hon.
Phil Cook, onr immediate repre
sentative, for copies of the Congres
sional Record. This will enable
ns to lay before our readers from
week to week a summary of tb»
most important measures before
congress We regret to learn
that. Gen. Cook has been confin* d
to his room with rheumatism the
greater portion of this session.
Stop that cough J Don’t preface

' diseases of the Throat and Lungs, By
its happy influence on the voice,
j oung ladies are enabled to sing
“Raptures of Love” more clerrl) and
sweetly to their enamoured swains.
Hence, the demand for this p yular
medicine is increasing; 2,880 bottles

Municipal Election.
At the election on Saturday last
for a Mayor and five Aldermen of
our town the following was the re
suit, viz;
D. A. Smith,was elected Mayor,
R. D. Allen, W. G. Bateman,
0. M. Colbert, W. L. Griffith,
and John Walker, Aldermen
Dr. Smith had no opposition.
The election, nit hough much in
terest was manifested, passed oft
quietly. The ticket elected is a
good one, and the interests of our
town are perfectly safe.
Savannah Jockey Club.
Our f hanks are due Mr. J. T. Mc
Farland, secretary, for a compli
mentary tickot. and invitation to at
tend the annual meeting of the
Savannah Jockey Club, which
trill be held at the Ten B-roeck
Race Course, Savannah January
21st, 23 and 24th. The programme
is one »o attractive that we regret
that other engagements will pre
vent our being in attendance.
Some very fine stables are already
oil hand, and the occasion is sure
to be both interesting and exciting.
All lovers of racing should make
it a point to be on hand and see
the flyers. Retn< niba-the dates.

Hedlcated to the memory df
Eugene Clyde, infant son of Julia
A. and P. M. Adams. Born June
the 18th, 1878. Died January
the 9th 1879.
In this dim World of clouded care,
We rarely know ’till kin too late;
How sweet the precious burden bears
That death has summoned through
the gate.
Those bright, blue eyes, now closed in
death,
Those eyes with so much lustre shone;
The manly form, now lies beneath—*■
The precious spot—the little mound.
Our darling little Clyde is gone;
The bloom hath faded from his cheek;
But will awake—that glorious morn,
His Father—Mother, then to meet.
Yes, we again our Clyde shall meet,

We take pleasure in presenting this
week to the many friends and patrons
of the Herald, a new and neat head
ing to our paper, together, with other
material imrovements we trust the ap

would ask the hearty co-operation
|of our citizens and the influence of
ur many friends to aid Us in build
up; Up our home paper, and show
the world we have a high appre-
atioU wo have for the interest of
r town and county. Tiie future
osperity of the Herald was nev
ermore flattering than at present.
We have just received a very
interesting communication from
Garden Valley, but sorry to say
it was received too late for this
issue. It will appear in our next.
Vick’s Floral Guinn.—This work
is before us, and those who send live
cents to James Vick, Rochester, N.
Y., for it will be disappointed. In
stead of getting a cheap thing, as the
price‘would seem to indicate, they will
receive a very handsome work of 10Q
pages, ami perhaps 500 illustrations—
wot cheap,hut elegant illustrations, on
the very best calendered paper, and as
a set-off to the whole, an elegant Col
ored Plate, that wo would judge cost
twice the price of the book.
