Chrlattaa Duty.
We have rued vary carefully, and
•vitli no sHght dfgws* of interest, tin*
cimmmuieations appearing in the H BR
AID of lato; the spirit <'f which, Remus
to aim at the advancement and im
provement, morallv, socially, etc., of
the young iiimu and young ladies of the
present, ago. This is all right and
well. To ^y the least of it, it may
have a tendency, to cause some young
, some young lady, to stop and
think, to consider carefully their faults
aud defects, (for none ai'e perfect,) and
thereby bring about an improvement
iu the future. Allow me to assure
you, kind contributors, that howev
much your urticles may be sneered at;
and however severely ridiculed and
criticized by some, you have the in-
eourageiuent and support of the better
class of society, for all good people at e
lovers of every laudable elfort made,to
advance the good of society—and iu
this connection, allow me to touch
briefly upon some thoughts suggested
<>y the heading of this article.
If ol y scriptures teach us, that we
must bear “one another’s burdens.”
Oh, wbata glorious, happy land would
be ours, if this injunction of Holy
writ, were only observed, and carried
out, by those who profess to be God’s
people 1 The Bible teaches us, that if
have aught against a brother, to go
directly to him aud endeavor to settle
auy differences which may exist, but
here recorded upon the pages of
this blessed Book, cau he found any
passage, that will justify a man, in
plaining of another’s faults, behind
his back, aud oftimes building by the
aid of the fertbe imagination, great
additious to what may at first be
slight fault, and is told from time to
time, aud add- d to more aud more,
•y time it is told, until finally, it
louche* that gigantic magnitude, of uu
pardonable sin. We are afraid that
there are some, who take especial de
light in, and make it their daily bus
iness, to display the faults and short-
tilings of others to pub.ic gu/.e, aud
i are sorely afraid, that there are
embers of the church of Christ, good
efficient members, who, while they do
not faun puit, fail aud ninit to frown
down such conduct. We should nev-
lytlung through uutlaun, nor
should we allow oursehes to act iu
any matter, where, and when represent
ed by anotliRr, if we have the least
grounds to suspect, that the party mak
ing such representation, hear iu his
bosom the least enmity or malace
against the accused. All these thing.-;
should be fully considered, aud care
fully weighed, before we act, or oven
form or express an opinion. Let us
try and adopt the “Golden rule.” Let
us endeavor, never to say anything
about another that we would not like
to have said about us. Oh follower of
Jesus, rally to the rescue of thy weak
brother. Do not allow the world to
crush him, but extend to him a friend
ly Lund, and say press onward, we will
help thee, to bear thy burden. This
is the true Christian spirit, born of
God, and taught by Jesus. Stop, stop
aud consider; think on the past, and
try and improve in the future. Let us
so live, that when life’s journey is clos
ed, when our earthly pilgrimuge is en
ded, and we come to fold our hands
in the cold embrace ofdeath; when
eyes shall be closed in that long, long
sleep, that knows no waking; when the
last scenes of earth shall have closed,

"BUSINESS IS BUSINESS!*
The undersigned feels compelled to
confess that he must get down to hi*
knitting and work for a living, and
pay for what he gets. This ie of oourae
very humiliating to a "white-man,”
but then, there is no use mincing words
over it.
That “every tub should stand on its
own bottom,” is a piece of Scripture
that is doubt less a mystery to most
persons, but then, l believe, that in its
practice there would be more genuine
religeon in the couuiry, than comes by
“Faith,” or any other technical theol
ogy, and that all men should observe
it, as well as women who carry home
steads or estates in their own names,
But to make a long matter abort, I
wish to go large y an 1 lucratively into
the “Practice of Mediciue,” and do
pledge my best efforts to give satisfac-
ion to all who gi> e me their confidence ,•
and fair compensation. But I would
seriously advise all who neither would
or could “j»aj/," that It is a bad thing
to be always taking medicine.
Respectfully,
J. WALKER.
