ago the doctors discovered that their
patient bad lost his mind entirely. Af
ter becomiuing crazy he reached the
conplusion that his family as w«rll ns
the doctors were trying to starve him,
so last week he decided to kill himself
and save them the trouble of doing it.
The negroes on the place lmd a quilts
ing and had cooked a great deal to feed
the quilters. Sellars by some means
found this out and made his way to
the negro quilting and told them that it
was his intention and desire to kill
himself and that he would have one
more meal before he did so. He then
began to eat and before he quit had
consumed everything that was cooked
to feed fifteen or twenty negroes; after
which he climed to the house top for
the purpose of jumping off and killiug
himself, hut fortunately was discovered
by l^s mother, who persuaded him out
of the noth'U. Last Sunday he again
decided to kill himself, .and getting
hold of a h’.miner with it climbed to
the top of his mother’s bouse nr.d there
avowed his intention to commit sui
cide if they did n<>t give him what lie
wanted to eat. lie at once began to
catl for raw eggs and had tlienr to tost

catch and eat. After eating all the
eggs tliat could be ftHmd he then began
to call for first one tiling and another
avowing at the same time that lie
wot.Id kill himself if they refuged to
give hiui what lie called for All of his
demands were gratified until almost
everything in the way of esculent bad
been devoured. Immediately after
t'nding that they would not longer sup
ply his demands,anti they did not ^ivo
him more because there was no more
to give him, he raised the hammer
above bis head made a motion or two
and at the same time calling for more
food. Seeing that they would not give
him more he let in on the top of his
head with the hammer, delt several
blows with all his power then turned
lose and rolled from the house top to
the ground. When w*e arrived we
found him seated upon the bed, per
fectly calm anti without the least indi
cation of pain. A worse looking, more
emaciated and bloody a man 1 never
have seen. The house top was red
with blood which came from bis heard,
while on the ground was a pool of
il where he lay after rolling from
the home top, and y»*t he lived and
