Miss Patricia Montgomery is vis
iting her mother and grandmother
at Wrens, Ga., this week.
Miss May VanLandingham of
Howard is visiting Misses Mary
and Janie Neisler this week.
Mrs. H. H. Riley’s sister, Mrs. G.
C. Robinson of Houston, Texas, is
visiting in the Riley home.
Mr. Harris Hortman enrolled at
Auburn University recently whore
he plans to study for a B. A. de
gree.
Mrs. B. W. Mullinix of Macon,
spent last week in Butler with her
mother, Mrs. B. F. Waller, and
Lynwood.
Mrs. Janett Oliphant of Macon
was the recent guest of Mrs. R. C.
Montgomery, Mrs. H. H. Riley and
Mrs G. C. Robinson.

Mr. Larry Almgren has accept
ed a position in Albany and will
continue his education at the Uni
versity of Ga. system in that city.
Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses Fowler,
Mrs. Eunice Allen and Mrs. Nell
Arnold of Macon were guests of
Mrs. Hoke Windham and Mr. Jack
Driskell, Sunday.
Mrs. Jewel Childs, Mrs. Mary
Moulton of Macon, were the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Benns, Mr.
and Mrs. H. H 1 . Riley and Mrs. Sara
Robinson, Sunday.
Visitors in the home of Mrs. J. T.
Mathews last week end were Mr.
and Mrs. Robert M. Mathews of
Charlotte, N. C., and Larry Schnei
der of Clearwater, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vandegrift, Miss
Anna Parks, Mrs. Marcus Parks
and Mrs. H. H. Parks were among
local citizens attending the funeral
of Mr. Ben Pough at Albany, Sat
urday.
Mrs. Robert Andrews of Gaines
ville and Mrs. Jones Perryman of
Talbotton were in the city one day
last week enroute to Marshallville
to visit the latter’s sister, Mrs. Tom
Taylor.
Capt. John Snider stationed at
the Air Force Base, Maxwell Field,
Ala., is taking officers’ training
for a period of seven weeks.
Friends of the Captain will be in
terested to know he holds the Dis
tinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Snider
in the grandson of Mrs. R. L. Sni
der of this city.
Mrs. Hoke Windham plans to
leave Friday for Manning, S. C„
where she will visit Mr. and Mrs.
Clowden and Mrs. C. Frank Wind
ham and children. Mrs. Windham
and children will leave Manning
July 9th for the Phillipine Islands
to join her husband who is sta
tioned with the U. S. Air Force on
the islands.
Mr. and Mrs. Hughes Wall, Miss
Patsy and Buddy of Auburn, Ala.,
will c-^nH the week end with Mr.
and Mrs. H. H. Riley.
Their numerous local friends are
extending a warm and cordial wel
come to Mr. and Mrs. Hughlan
Chapman of Anaheim, Calif., who
here for a few days visit to their
sister, Miss Ethel Chapman and
other friends in the county. Mr.
Chapman served for several years
as clerk in the local post office be
fore going to “seek his fortune in
the Golden West.”
Capt. and Mrs. J. J. McCarthy
and daughters recently arrived
here from Germany where Captain
McCarthy is stationed. After visit
ing wtth their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Wainwright last week.
The McCarthy family is visiting
Mr. McCarthy’s parents at Biloxi,
Miss. Capt. McCarthy will report
to the military post at Fort Ben-
ning soon, where he will be sta
tioned during the next few months.
Mr. Mott Speaker at
Auxiliary Meeting
Mr. W. H. Mott was guest speak
er at June meeting of the local
American Legion Auxiliary. He
spoke on “Medi-Care,” giving many
facts and figures showing the
fingers of Communism and other
“isms” clutching at the very heart
strings of Americanism under cov
er of our so-called social benefits.
Rev. Bert Wheeler was also a
guest speaker at this meeting. Mrs.
Robert Butler was program chair
man.
Fifteen members and three visit
ors attended the meeting.
Rupert H-D Club
Met on June 13th
The Rupert H. D. Club met June
13th. The meeting was called to
order by the president and minutes
were read, after which the meeting
entered into the business session.
Mrs. Luke Adams gave an inter
esting talk on the trip she made to
Rock Eagle.
The Club planned a Barbecue
Supper for Friday night, June 29th.
Central H-D Club
Observes Family Nite
The Central H-D Club observed
Family Night at the Club House
on the night of May 24th, with a
goodly number of persons in at
tendance.
A covered dish supper was served
to those present and a brief busi
ness session followed.
The president, Mrs. Jack Peed,
called the meeting to order. Roll
call and minute reading followed.
Mrs. Ella Richardson gave a
timely talk on the trend of the
times and an amusing reading.
Visitors were introduced and Mr.
Hugh Cheek talked on the neces
sity of fellowship in our communi
ties.
The meeting closed with a de
votional given by Mrs. Bert Wheel -

The family reunion of the late
John H. Underwood’s family was
observed Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Underwood. Mr.
Underwood is the only surviving
immediate descendant. Ninety-five
members of the family enjoyed the
! lunch spread on the spacious
grounds at the noon hour.

Local Library Opens
Two Days Each Week
The Butler Library will be opened
from 3 to 5 p. m. on Tuesdays
and Thursday afternoons for eight
weeks after school closed for the
summer vacation. Viz: June 5th
through July 26th.
Those wishing to join the vacation
reading club should register either
on June 5th or June 7th.

Cemetery Notice
The regular annual cleaning of
Bethel Primitive Baptist Church
cemetery has been changed to June
26th. All who have relatives and
friends buried here, or anyone in
terested in the cemetery are re
quested to come and bring tools to
do this work. Come early in order
to finish with the work before it
gets so hot.

Methodists opened their 96th an
nual session Monday with memor
ial scervices for conference minis
ters and ministers’ wives who have
died during the past year.
About 1,000 clergy and delegates
representing the 206,800 Methodists
in the North Georgia Conference
wil meet thru noon Friday at Glenn
Memorial Methodist Church on the
Emory University campus.
They will act on annual reports |
and resolutions of al] conference
boards and agencies during the 5-
day gathering. Bishop J. O. Smith
of the Atlanta area will preside.
