The bride said she met Taylor

months ago, but because of his
background she declined to say

his ways.

Traffic Safety Association is hard
at work laying plans for the ninth
annual Teen-Age Traffic Safety Con
ference, to be held at Georgia
Southwestern, Americus, July 29 to
August 3.
Sponsored by the state-wide youth
organization, the conference is un
der the guidance of the Georgia
Department of Public Safety’s Safety
Education Division of which Capt.
Eugene Thomas is supervisor.
Purpose of the conference is to
afford high school students from
all over Georgia an opportunity to
discuss traffic safety problems as
they affect their own age group,
their community and the state as a
whole.
The weeklong program is diversi
fied, featuring general sessions
dealing with various phases of
safety, open forums, panel discus
sions, as well as periods for recre
ation and entertainment, it was
pointed out.
High school students, both boys
and girls, with leadership qualities
and an expressed interest in safety
are eligible as delegates. They may
be sophomores, juniors or seniors
as of next fall's school term.

a Superior Court hearing in which
the son testified that he fatally
shot an uncle in self-defense. Both
earlier were charged with murder.

Irwinton, Ga. — A 22 year old
Toomsboro man drowned Sunday
while wading in the Oconee River

to Wilkinson County Sheriff George

John Oliver of Toomsboro was
wading with two companions when
he stepped off into a deep hole in
the river, Hatcher said. Douglas
Landrum, also of Toomsboro, tried
to save Oliver, but was almost
drowned, too, according to Hatch
er.

Killed by Auto
Tifton, Ga. — A Tifton couple
who had spent 70 years together
will be buried tokether at Tifton

vention — an automobile.
Mr. and Mrs. Swan R. Carlton
died at the Tift county hospital
early Sunday, less than an hour
apart, of injuries received when
they were struck down while walk
ing on upper Ty Ty Road at the
Tifton city limits.
He was 90 year old; she was 84
and became his bride on her 14th
birthday.
