BASEBALL NEWS
The Blakely baseball team has j
had rather a bad week since the |
past issue of the News. A crippled
catcher and an overworked pitching j
staff showed the team up in rather
bad light in the series with Ameri
cas the latter part of last week.
Thursday’s game in Americus, on i
protest of Manager Wade of Blake
ly was thrown out and will be play
ed over as the first game of a double
header in Americus Saturday. Um
pire Stewart had ruled Americus the
winner by a score of 3 to 2, calling
a Blakely runner who had scored
back on a passed ball, which score
should have been allowed due to
ground rules.
Friday’s game in Americus went
to that club by a score of 4 to 3 and
following this the Sumter county ag
gregation came to Blakely Saturday
and trounced us in a free-hitting
contest 7 to 5. Three home runs
featured this contest, one by Austin
of Blakely and two by Americus
players.
Monday afternoon Cochran for
Blakely and Kain for Albany en
gaged in a pretty pitcher’s battle
which went to Albany by the score
of 2 to 1. This was followed by
another Albany victory Tuesday af
ternoon by a score of 10 to 1. Jack
Slappey was too much for the Blake
ly sons of swat, and the defense of
the local team seemed gone to
pieces. Dorfan and Hollingsworth
were on the mound for Blakely,
and Hope was on the receiving line.
Kimbrell, Albany catcher, was the
hitting star of this fracas, getting
four hits out of five times up.
But it’s a long lane that has no
turning. The boys went over to
Albany Wednesday with blood in
their eyes and vengeance in their
souls. The fans were clamoring for
a victory. “Lefty” Miles was pick
ed as the man to do the work and
Fincher was again on the receiving
line. Hope, catcher and short stop,
succeeded Conway at shortstop and
.«fi;-rleq.° game was the result,
Farrar, Savannah youngster, was the
victim of the Blakely batting crew,
and the result was a score of 10 to 3
in Blakely’s favor. The boys showed
the old-time form and it is believed I
that with the losing streak broken, j
Blakely is going to take on new life

Who Needs the Automobile Accident Policy?
EVERYBODY
The automobile is the most deadly hazard of modern life. Last
• year it killed 14,000 people—a city in itself —and injured a million and
a half more.
One car out of every hundred is literally a death-trap—it will kill
somebody before it reaches the junk pile.
More than twelve million automobiles in the United States and
j the number is increasing yearly.
Automobile accidents are increasing faster than the number of
machines.
1,400,000 people in the United States suffered non-fatal injuries
from automobiles last year.
$280,000,000.00 si estimated as the annual economic loss from deaths
and injuries caused by motor accidents.
This danger is increasing every day—and the Automobile Accident
| Policy is the best and most specific protection against it and the
cheapest.
