For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, to pay for the services
and expenses of five Indian inspectors, be
ing the difference between the sum requir
ed, thirty thousand dollars, and the
amount appropriated February fourteenth,
eighteen hundred ond seventy-three,
twelve thousand four hundred dollars,
seventeen thousand six hundred dollars.
For the ten instalments, to be
paid, under direction of the President, to
the Flathead Indians removed from the
Bitter Root Valley to the Jacko reserva
tion, in the Territory of Moutana, in ac
cordance with the second section of the
act entitled “An act to provide for the re
moval of the Flathead and other Indians
from the Bitter Root Valley in the Ter
ritory of Montana,” approved June fifth,
eighteen hundred and seveuty-two. five
thousand dollars: Provided, That said
sum shall be paid only to those Indians of
said tribe who shall have settled upou the
Jocko reservation.
For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, for the removal and
subsistence; up to July first, eighteen
hundred and seventy-four, of the Kicka
poo Indians who have been removed from
the boarders of Mexico and Texas to the
ledian Territory, said amount to be ex
pended under the direction of the Secreta
ry of the Interior, twenty-five thousand
dollars’. ,
For army pensions and expenses thereof
under the various acts of Congress, three
hundred thousand dollara. • And there is
hereby appropriated a sum sufficient to
nrake the compensation of the clerk of the
House Committee on Invalid Pensions
equal to two thousand one hundred and
sixty dollars per annum for the Forty
third C ongress, and no longer.
For this amount, to be expended, under
the direction of the Secretary of the Inte
rior, in subsisting the Sioux Indians at the
Red Cloud and Whitestone ageucies up to
the first of July next, two hundred thou
sand dollars,
For this amount, or so much thereof as
mny be necessary, to meet the deficiency in
the appropriation for the fiscal year end
ing June thirtieth, eighteen huudred and
seventy-four, to subsist aud properly care
for the Apaclie aud other Indians, in AH
zona and New mexico, who have been or
may be collected on reservations in New
Mexico and Arizona: Provided, That this
appropriation shall be expended only in
behalf of those Indians who go on mid re
main upon said reservations and refrain
from hostilities, three huudred and fifty
thousand dollars.
For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, to provide, under the
direction of the Secretary of the Interior,
settlement, clothing, food, agricultural im
plements, and seeds for the Modoc Indians
that have been removed to and are now re
siding within the Indian Territory, ten
thousand dollars.
For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, to subsist and properly
care for the Kiowa and Camanche, Che
yenne and Arapaho,and Wichita aud other
affiliated bauds of Indians in the Indian
2’erritory, during the fiscal year enduig
June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and sev
enty-four, seventy-five thousand dollars.
For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, to subsist and properly
care for the Kansas Indians, including ag
ricultural assistance, pay of employees, and
the erection of a mill on their new reser
vation in the Indian Territory,said amount
to be refuuded to the United States from
the proceeds of the sale of their lands in
Kansas so soon as the same are available,
twenty thousand dollars.
For this amount, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, for the erection of ne
cessary agency-buildings on the new reser
vation of said Indians in the Indian Terri
tory, said amount to be re imbursed to the
United States from the proceeds of the
sale of their "lands in Kanses so soon as
the same are available, five thousand dol
lars.
a;or this amount, or so much thereof as
may bo necessary, in payment for servfces
rendered and expenses iucurred connected
with the appraisal and sale of the dimin
ished reserve of the Kaw Indians in the
State of Kansas, in accordance with the
provisions of the act of May eighth, eigh
teen huudred and seventy-two, entitled
“Au act to provide for the removal of the
Kansas tribe of Indian? to the Indian Ter
ritory, and to dispose of their lands in
Kansas to acturl settlers” twenty .six thou
sand three hundred and sixty-three dollars
and fifty-nine cents: Provided, That said
sum shall be refunded to the Government
out of the proceeds of sales of said lands.
For the L’Anseand Yieux-de-Sert bands
of Chippewas of lake Superior, at the rate
of one dollar and twenty-five cents an acre
for all the lands in towuship fifty.oue uorth
of range thirty-one west, which are not
included in the limits of the reservation of
said Indians as defiued by the wording of
the treaty of September thirtieth, eighteen
hundred and fifty-four: Provided, That the
money received for the lands in said town,
ship shall be expended for educational and
beneficial purposes as the President may
direct, and at such times and in such man
ner as he may deem proper for the inte
rests of said bauds of Indiaus.

For the survey of the exterior bounda
ries of Indian reservations and subdi
visions of the same, being for surveys in
the Indian Territory embraced within the
lands conceded by the Cherokee, Seminole
aud Creek tribes of Indians, being a defi
ciency for the present aud prior years, for
ty-five thousand dollars.
For continuing the collection cf statis
tics and historical data respecting the In
dians of the United States, under the di
rection of the Secretary of the Interior,
thirty-five huudred dollars: Provided, That
the compensation of the person collecting
such data shall not exceed two thousand
dollars a year, and his actual individual
and uecessary traveling expenses.
To enablfr the Secretary of the Interior
to pay Zebulon B. Sturgus, assistant sec
retary to sign land patents for the Presi
dents for the month of November,eighteen
hundred aud seventy-three, one hundred
aud twenty-two dollars and twenty cts.

lors’ Orphans’ Home,” approved July

F. V. Hayden, during the fiscal year end

seventy-four, to be expended under the di
rection of the Secretary of the Interior,
twenty thousand dollars.
For the current expenses of the Gov
ernment Hospital for the Insane in the Dis
trict of Columbia, being a deficiency for
the the service of the present year, eleven
thousand three hundred and sixty-six dol
lars. For tee Columbian Institution for
the Deaf and Dumb in the District of Co
lumbia, to enablethe ttrustees of the in
stitution to pay the amount yet due on
the purchase of tile estate known as
Kendall Green, ten thousand six hund
and ninety seven dollars and forty-six
cents,to be expended under the direction
of the Secretary of the Interior.
For repairing and finishing in a thor
ough and complete mannea the bronze
statue of Jefferson, placing the same in
National Statuary Hall, and procuring a
suitable marble base and pedestal therefor,
ten hundred and thirteen dollars.
To pay Captain James L. Fisk, of
Montana Territory, the amount due to
him on settlement of his accounts as officer
in charge of overland emigrant expedition,
seven thousand eight hundred and sixty
two dollars and thirty-seven cents.
For foundation and pedestal for the
bronze statue of the late Genertl John A.
Rawlins, authorized by act of Congress
approved April tenth, eighteen hundred
red and seventy-two, three thousand dol
lars. And the Secretary of War is au
thorized to place the same in Rowlins
Square, or such other reservation in city
of Washington as he may select.
POST-OFFICE DEPF.ATMENT.
To enable the Postmaster-General to
offer to a reward for the apprehension of
the parties concerned in the late mail-rob
beries in Missouri, five thousand dollars;
and for the same purpose in the matter
of the late mail robberies in Texas, three
thousand dollars.
For expense incurred in alterations and
improvements made necessary by the
change of grade on Eighth street, in order
to provide an entrance for the mail-wag
ons to the court-pard of the General Post-
Office, five thousand six hundred and
thirty-three dollars and thirty-three cents;
aud to pav expenses caused by the change
of grade of all the stseets surrounding the
Aost-Offlce Department building, six hund
red and eighty dollars.

For defraying the expenses of the Su
preme Court and circuit and district
courts of the United States, including the
District of Columbia; atul also for jurors
and witnesses, and expenses of suits in
which the Ucited States are concerned; of
prosecutions for offenses committed
against the United States; for the safe
keeping of prisoners, and for defraying the
expeuses which may be incurred in the en
forcement of the act approved February

For salariss-of United States district
judgp-3, to pay audited and certified ac
counts, being a deficiency for the fiscal

For salaries of States district attorneys,
to pay amount due L. C. Rockwell, late
attorney to the district of'Colorado Terri
torv, thirty-five dollars and seventv-one
cents; and to pay William McMichuei,
attorney for the eastern district of Penn
sylvania, amount due him, thirty-nine dol
laas and ninety cents, said sums being de
ficiencies for the fiscal year ending - June
thirty, eighteen hundred and seventy-three.
For salaries of United States district
marshals, to pay Church Howe, marshal of
the district of Wyoming, amount due him,
thirty-three dollars and fifty-two cell's, be
ing a deficiency for the fiscal year ending
June thirty, eighteen hundred and teven
ty-two.
To pay the salary of the late judge of
the eastern district of Wisconsin, retired
under the fifth section of the act of April
tenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine,
from Jauuary first, eighteen hundred and
seventy-four, to June thirtieth, eighteen
hundred and seueuty-four, one thousand
seven hundred and fifty dollars.
For the payment of the telegraph opera
tor from February first, eighteen hundred
and seventy-four, to the end of the current
fiscal year, four hundred and seventeen
dollars.

as laborer during the Forty-first Congress,
as allowed by resolution of the Senate of
March third, eighteen hundred and seven

fulfilling treaty sripulations with va
rious Indian tribes, for the year end
ing June thirtieth, eighteen hundred
and seventy-five, and for other pur-i
poses.
Be it enveted by the Ssnttte and
JTov.se of Bepresentatives of the United
States of America in Congress assem
bled, That the foliowing sums be, and
they are hereby, appropriated, out of
any money in the treasury not other
wise appropriated, for the purpose
of paying the current and contingent
expenses of the Indian Department,
and fulfilling treaty stipulations with
the various Indian tribes:

Indian affairs for the Centrrl and
Northern superintendencies, two
thousand dollars each.

Creeks, Choctaws and Chickasaws
and Seminoles;
One for the tribes in Minnesota,
namely, at the White Earth agency;
One for the tribes in lowa, name

hundred dollars to build a school
house: provided, That no salary be
paid to the agent unless he lives
near enough to the agency to teach
and care for the tribe every day;
Two for the tribes in Wisconsin,
namely, at the Green Bay and La
Pointe agencies;
One for the tribes in Michigan,
namely, at the Mackinac agency;
One for the New York Indians,
namely, at the New York agency;
Seven for the tribes in Arizona,
namely, Colorado River. Papago,
Pima and Maricopa, Chiricahui, San
Carlos, Campe Apache, and Moquis
Pueblo agencies, in all one hundred
and two thousand five hundred dol

duty of the President to dispense
