Round Dances.
Th* Mfawfajj diabgne is from fl e
Catholic literary Magazine published
fa Philadelphia called "Our Own.”
What eye cau follow the course of a
eouplo of modern whirligigs as they
describe their wondrous circles over;
the ball-room floor ? Like sea-worthy
crafts they alternately dip, and pitch,
and skim—now appearing in full sail
before what would seem u steady
breeze; then obeying the sudden ris
ing of the instrumental gale, they
swing to the leeward, roll to the wind
ward, and after a brief struggle are
submerged altogether, and found at
last in some out-of-the way corner,
panting, gasping, perspiring, hut su
premely happy, and ready for another
cruise. Now the question arises, in
what does the extreme pleasure con
sist? Perhaps the following conver
sation between a young lady and a
clergyman may throw some light on
the subject:
“Please tell mo, Father, is it a si>'
to dance the round-dances?”
“What am Ito under .taiid by the
round-dances ?”
“Waltzes, polkas, galops, etc.”
“Describe a galop.”
"Why, it’s something like a waltz,
only swifter, and the steps are differ
ent, and there are several changes as
yon make the circuit of tho room.
"Alone ?
“By no means; a partner, of course."
“Gentleman, I presume ?”
“Well, yes; gentleman preferred.”
“Takes the lady by the hand V"
“Not exactly; at least, by one
hand”
“And bow does he dispose of the
other 7”
"Well, why” —blushing deeply—"you
know the lady must be supported, and
so her partner just touchos her waist
lightly, and —
"But that would afford no support.”
“Well, she rests on his ax —hand
Just a little, Father.”
“But then she must have a superflu
ous hand if he takes but one,”
"Oh, she rests her other hand up:n
his thouldir just enough to steady
herself. ’ (More blushes.)
‘•But” —very matter of fact—*‘i»
that comfortable ?”
"Oh, yes, Father, very comfortable.”
“If many couple dance at ouee, 1
should think there would be danger of
their coming in contact”
“Sometimes, but they recover them
selves immediately."
“And the lady is not thrown away
from her partner V”
“Oh, not at all; ho holds her too
closely.”
“I think”—taking a pinch of snuff—
“l understand now what you mean by
a round-dance, which I presume you
enjoy very much.”
"It is perfectly enchanting! partic
ularly wheu the music is fine, and one
ha* a good partner.”
‘•Do you dance with any gentlemen
who may be introduced? In society
there must be some bad men.”
“Well, I’d rather dance with a bad
man who is a good dancer, than a good
man who’s a bad dancer. It don’t make
much odds ab >:it the character of the
gentleman, s » lie is a good dancer. —
But then, to be sure, I enjoy it a good
deal more wheu I know the gentleman
•nd like him.”
“And you think this is proper and
modest and maidenly, to go careering
over a ball-rooui floor in tho arms of u
man whom you might or might not
have known ten minutes previously.”
“Well, no; but its the custom.'
“Would you permit a stranger en
tering your father’s house to assume
the position of the round dance, and
conduct you through your parlors ?”
“Os course not; that would be
shocking.”
“My child, in the eves of God it is
the same.”
How tlie Deri! was Caught.
A good many anecdotes have ap
peared in the papers of late, of the
Hard Shell Baptist, and we have given
place to some of them, not because of
any want of respect for the denomina
tion, but for the humor contained in
them. As an evidence of our disposi
tion to deal with all alike, we give the
following, picked up a few days ago:
“Parson Larkin, a worthy but se
date old divine of the Methodist
Church, met in the road Joe Finks, a
neighbor, who had neither the fear of
God, his Satanic Majesty, or any oth
er being before his eyes, and whose
love of fun was only equaled by an
unfortunate impediment in his speech,
viz, stuttering:
“Good morning, Mr. Finks,” said
the parson, as they met and reined up
their horses.
“G-g-g-good morning p-p-p-parson,”
replied Joe.
“Any news V quoth the parson.
“N-n-n-news ? w-w-w-why hain’t you
h-h-h-heard it ?”
“No, what is it ?”
“W-w-w-why they c-e-c-caught the
devil in our neighbor h-h-h-hood last
night.”
“You don’t say so ! How ?”
‘B-r-r-r-run him into a w-w-w-well.’
“Ah ! How was he got out?'’
“F-f-f-fished out How ?”
“T-t-t-took a b-b-b-big hook and 1-1-
line and b-b-bated it with a P-p-p-prea
byterian.” .
“Did that catch him ?
“N-n-n-no the d-d-d-devil only
smelt of him a 1-1-littie but w-w-would
not bite.”
“Then how ?”
“B-b-baited him with * B-b-bab-
tist” j
“Did they they catch him with the j
Baptist?” j
“N-n-n no—he n-n-nibled at him
*nd w-w-wouldu’t take hold.”
“What did they try next ?” i
“T-t-tried a M-m-m-methodist, and
the d-d-devil g-g g-grabbed him like a
t-fc-trout would a m-m-minner.”
“That’ll do, Mr. Finks. Mind the
devil don’t catch you,” said the par

DR J. BRADFIELD’S
.F E MALE
REGULATOR.
“Woman’s Best Friend.”
Trm VALUABLE MEDICINE is prepared for WO
MEN exclusively, and to be used by SVOVJEN onlj
jt is adapted especially to those cases where the loom.,
is disordered, and will cure any irregularity in lb:j
■•menses,” except in such cases as rpqu re a sursrWt
opera’ion. As these last are v ry rare, the FEMALE
REGULATOR is of almost universal application. It
a sudden check of the “monthly ontscs,” from cold
trouble o( mind or like cause, it acta like a charm, b>
r entering the discharge in every instance, thus re
lievlnif she fever, headache, p tin in ihe smalt of the
hack and “lower stomach.'’ flushes of h-»t about the
face, chilly sensations, bu-ninc of Ihe eyelid* and gen
eral restlessness. Taken in time, all’hese symptoms
pass away immediately, without injury to the consti
tution. Frequently, h' Wever.the propsr remedy is not
applied in lime, the disease becomes chronic, and the
foundation laid for numberless “vtis to Die comtitu
!iou ol woman. The next “turn” conies around and
there is no “show,” or perhaps the“whites” will ap
pear. There will be some uneasiness about the womb,
but very little nr none of the natural fluid escaping.—
Thecomjilexion becomes sallow, bowels swollen, a sort
of greenish caste about the face, constant, dull aching
paius in the head, weight In the lower stomach an I
back, with or without whites, palpitations ofthe heart,
poll ir, exhaustion, indigestion, weariness, langour,
aching across the loins, loss of appetite, psfn in lelt
hrea»t, tightness across the chest, cough end id tdiness.
If still allowed to go on,‘ green sickness” wi 1 he fully
developed—toe headache becomes more severe, with
logs of memory, diminished sensibility, sick stomach,
dyspepsia, no relish for food. loss of flesh, increasing
flutteilmr of the heart, swelling of the feet, legs and
body and occasional spitting of blood. The slightest
effort causes hurried b> eathinj , almost to suffocation
The skin is flabby and has a “doughy feel.” This Is a
sad picture, but it is the cmdirion of thousands of
women bet ween the ages of 15 ami 45, who are brought
to the verge of the grave by neglect to
take the proper remeiv. To a’l who are afflicted with
a tv of the symptoms above mentioned, in connection
with an irregularity of tho “monthly sickr ess,” we
earnestly »av TaKK DK. .r. BRADFIELD’3 FEMALE
RKGULATOO. A few ounces taken, you will at once
experience its benefits, and with a little patience you
may be fully restored to health.
This remedy has been extensively u«ed for upwards
of 2d years by many of the most experienced and suc
cessful Physicians in Georgia. We repeat, that !>r.
J. Bradfield’s Fein le Regulator is prepared for Wo
men and to be used hy Women on'y. It would be an
easy matter to firnish thousands nf certificates to
prove Its excellence, but prefer to place the medicio
upon its own merits. A trial Is alt we ak.

DR. BRADFIELD—
Dear Sir : I take pleasure in stating that some time
previous to the late war, I tt«ed with"the utmost *ne
"esf, on a servant girl, your Female Regulator, Pre
pared then at Bradfield’s Drug Store, West Point., Ga.
She had been sitflVring severely from suppressed men
struation, and this medicince soon restored her To her
health. She is to-day living in Atlanta, sound and
well.
I »I1 state further, that I know its being used, witb
erptal su-cess, on a servant girl of tnv b-other-in-iavv,
Prof. Rutherford, of Athens. Ga. This woman had,
I think, been diseased for six year*. She was a house
servant, and seemed cu'-ed, up to th* time of •'free
dom.” Ido not he-isate to indorse your prrpa-stion
lor the purpose for which you recommend it. Yours
♦ruly, JNO. C. WIItTNEU.
STATE OF GEORGIA, Troup County.
This is to certify that I have examined the Recipe
of Dr. Jo*eoh Bradfteld, ol this county, and, as a Tied
leal man, prmounee It to be a combination of medi
cines of great merit, in the treatment of *U the dis
eases of females, for which he recommend-* it. This
Dec. 21st, 1563. WM. P. BEASLEY, M. ».
CAKTF.TtSTii.LK, Ga., April 26, 1869.
This will certify that two members of my
imr 'diatc family, after having suffered for
many years from menstrual irregularity, and
have been treated without benefit by various
medical doctors, were, at length, completely
cured by one bottle of Dr. J. Bradfield’s Fe
male Regulator. I, therefore, deem it my
duty to furnish this certificate, with the hope
of drawing the attention of suffering woman
kind to the merits of a medicine, whose pow
er in curing irregular and suppressed men
struation, has been proven under my own
personal observation. Its effect on such
cases is truly wonderful, and well may the
remedy be called “Woman’s Best Friend.’*

This wonder M Y3get&blf
restorative is the sheet*
anchor of the feeble and
debilitated. Asa tonic and
cordial for the aged and
languid it has no equal
among stomachics. Asa
remedy for the nervous
weakness to which women
are especially subject, It is
superseding every othei
stimulant. In all climates,
tropical, temperate of
frigid, it acts as a specific
in every species of disorder
which undermines the
bodily strength and breaks
down the animal spirits.
Wherever it is intro*
duced it becomes a stand
ard article —a medicinal
staple. It is to-day the
best and purest tonic, and
the most popular medicine
in the civilized world—he
sure and get the genuine.
