FOR THE CURE OF
AGUE AND FEVER
OR
CHILLS AND FEVER.
The proprietor of th’s celebrated medicine justly
claims for it a superiority orer all remedies ever offer
ed to the puolic for the nafc % certain, gpeedy and per
manent cure of A#ue and Kever .or Chills and Fever
whether of snort or standing. He relers to the
entire Western and Southwestern country to hear him
testimony to the truth of the assertion, that in no case
whatever will it fail to cure, if the directions are strict
ly followed and ca ried out. In a great many cases a
single doge has been sufficient for a cure, and whole
families have been cured by a single bottle, with a per
fect restoration of the general health. It is, however,
prudent, and in every case more certain to cure, if its
use ia con’inued in smaller doses for a week or two af
ter the disease has been checked, more especially in
difficult and long standing cases. Usually, this medi
cine will not require any aid to keep the bowels in
good order; should the patient, however, require a
cathartic medicine, after having taken three or four
doses of the Tonic, a single dose iJBULL’B a.

erg:
I HAVE received many testimonials from profes
s onal and medical men, as my almanacs and vari
ous publications have shown, all of which are genuine.
The following from a highly educated and popular
piipsician in Georgia, is certainly one of the most sen
sible eotnmunicationf I have ever received. Dr. Clem

en your “Worm Destroyer’’ several trials, and find it
wonderfully efficacious. Iv has not failed in a single
Instance, to have the wished-for effect. Xam doing a
pretty large country practice, and have daily use for
some article of the kind. lam free to confess that. I
know of no remedy recommended by the ablest authors
that is so certain and speedy In it* effects. On the con
trary they are uncertain in the extreme. My object
in writing you is lo find out upon what terms I can
get the medicine directly from you. If I can get it
upon easy terms, I shall use a great deal of it. lan
aware that the use of such articles U contrary to the
teachings and practice of a great majority of the reg
ular line of M. D.’s, but I see no just cause or good
sense in discarding a remedy which we know to be ef
ficient, simply because we may be ignorant of its com
bination. For my part, I shall make it a rule to use all
aDd any means to alleviate suffering hum inity which
I may be able to command—not hesitating because
someone more ingenious than myself may have learn

Benton Barrack*, Mo., April 80, 1866.
Dr. John Bull—Dear Sir: Knowing the efficiency
of your Sarsaparilla, and the healing and beneficial
qualitie* it possesses, I send you the following state
ment of my case:
I wa* wounded about two years ago—was taken
prisoner and confined for sixteen months. Being
moved so often, my wound* have not healed yet. I
have not sat up a moment since 1 was wounded. I
am shot through the hips. My general health is im
paired, and I need something to assist nature. I
have more faith in your Sarsaparilla than in any thing
else. I wish that that is genuine. Please express me
half a dozen bottles, and oblige
Capt. O. P. JOHNSON.
St. Louis, Mo.
P. B.—The following was written April 89, 1865, by
Mrs. Jennie Johnson, mother of Capt Johneon.
DR. BULL—Dear Sir: My husband, Dr. C. 8. John
son, was a skillful surgeon and physician in Central
New York, where be died, leaving the above C. P.
Johnson to my care. At thirteen years of age he had
a chronic dlarrh®* and scrofula, for which I gave
him your Sarsaparilla. IT CURED HIM. I have for
ten years recommended It to many in New York, Ohio,
and lowa, for scrofula, fever s ires, and general debili
ty. Perfectjsuccess has attended it. The cures effect
ed in some cases of scrofula and fever sores were
almost miracultus lam very anxious for my son to
again have recourse to your Sarsaparilla. He is fear
ful of getting a spurious article, hence hi* writing to
you for it. His wounds were terrib’e, but. I believe he
will recover. Respectfully, JENNIE JOHNEON.

among the invigorating and regulating med
icines of the present day. To the wants of
persons engaged in indoor employments,
especially in crowded factories where even
with the best possible ventilation the atmos
phere is always in some degree polluted, this
salubrious vegetable tonic is peculiarly
auapted. Tne nature of the ingredients is
no mystery. It consists of an absolutely pure
diffusive stimulant, tinctured—or rather
surcharged—with the fluid extracts of sana
tious roots and barks and herbs,
The pharmacopoeia has its tinctures, but
what are they? The juice of only a silge
root or bark or plant is present in each. Not
one of them combines the three properties of
a tonic, an alterative, and an aperient. All
these elements are blended in the Bitters;
nor are these the sum of its medicinal recom
mendations. It is also a blood depurent and
an antispasmodic,
The baleful effect which air that has been
partially exhausted of its oxygen by frequent
breathing it produces on the vital organiza
tion, is notorious, and when to this devital
ized atmosphere is superadded the mephitic
vapor ol hot air furnaces, it becomes delete
rious and depressing in the extreme. To
enable the system to bear up, even for a few
hours each day against the debilitating in
fluenceof a vitiated atmosphere, a wholesome
tonic and alterative is urgently required.
This grand disideratum is supplied in Hos

The Place to Buy Crockery. —We
have long thought that Messrs. Mc-

est stores especially internally, to
be found in the city of Atlanta. One
almost imagines himself in a fairy pal
ace as he surveys the beautifully ar
ranged shelves of china, glass, porce
lain, granite and silver plated ware,
which gives such an air of beauty
to the place. But attractive as is the
stock, the propietors would prefer to
exchange it for greenbacks—and they
are -‘mighty right.” Then we say to

anything is wanted in the crockery

A Lady’s liits and Comparisons—
Spicy Gossip,
A lady writer in a New York fashion
paper thus discourseth:
It is a noticeable fact that men who
meet as strangres in a place of busi
ness, or in the casual juxtaposition of
travel, will pass the timo of day, strike
up an impromptu conversation on the
merits and demerits of the weather,
discuss politics, compare opinions and
part to meet again, but stronger by
the friction of antithetic natures, and
better in mind and heart, for the bar
ter of sentiments and ideas.
Now women, moving in the same ,
social circle will not do this when they j
meet. They must be t'egularly intro
duced and eudotsed by responsible
parties, and the exact position, they
hold in society defined to a hair’s
breadth, and when it is accurately de
termined who and what they are, how
many their servants, what extent their
wardrobes, who their dressmaker, they j
are admitted to the privileges of ac-;
qu uintance, and may, in the course of
time, arrive at a kissing friendship.—
Then the danger of becoming too inti
mate begins. They get so familiar
that they begin to discuss small faults
and eccentricities of dress and man
ner. They inform their next friend,
iu strictest confidence, of course, that
the servants are allowed too many |
privileges; and the cook wastes things; j
that the husband is jealous and the
lady cross; and that a certain person
dyes her hair, and has freckles. And
the story being told again in confi
dence, there is a general quarrel and
a permanent coolness.
bitting at the counter of a fashiona
ble dry goods store lately I saw one
lady examine the panier of another
standing near to see if it was lined
with silk or glazed lining cambric. The
wearer of the panier in question hap
pened to turn and discover the inso
lent woman, and I wish I could de
scribe the unnatural scorn and con
tempt with which she transfixed her
enemy by a glance, or the hateur with
which she walked away, carrying in
her features a look of injured iuno
cenco, as if she had been an angel and
someDody had cut off her wings.
Now a man who had discovered an
other man examing the cut of his coat
would have smiled at the conceit of
the thing, stepped out to show it off
to advantuge—giving bis tailor’s c ard,
and very likely asking his criticising
inspector for a light or offered him a
Havana from his own case.
Why women persist in hedging
themselves in with so many conven
tionalities of fashion, custom, and so
ciety, I cannot imapine, unless it is that
they would show their strength by j
clearing them all a bound, us they of-!
ten do. There is not one fashionable,
aristocratic woman in five hundred
who would dare to stop on a promen
ade and speak to a poor girl in a wool
len shawl and delaine dress; if she did
she would assume such an air of state
and graudeur that all who saw might
read, “Stand aside, I am holier than
thou.” And there is not one woman
in five thousand who would talk to her
twenty minutes in a public square, in
sight of her own refined and virtuous
associates. What would people say ?
Even the respectable Mrs. Grundy
would be shocked, Young Reprobate
in Mrs. Lottv’s earrhgo would lisp,
‘‘Highly improper you know,”

TVs will certify that, two members of my immediate
family, after h iv'.njr suffered for many years from
men-trual irngulaiity, and have i>etn treated without
benefit by various medical doctors, were, at length,
completely cured by one bottle of lfr, J. Bradfleid's
Female I, therefore, deem it my duty to
furnish this certificate, w ith the hope of drawing the
attention of suffering woman-kind to the merits of a
medicine whose power, in curing irregular and sup- j
pressed menstruation, has been proven under soy own
personal observation. Its effect on such cases is truly
wonderful, and well may the remedy be called “Wo
man’s Best friend.” Yours, respectfully,

Then of course the impurities of the serof.

became infected aliks. Men, women and
children throughout all the West are mosi
wofully diseased from this cause, and knew
