PERFORMANCES.
WHIRLWIND'S first race was at Atlanta. G,
when a three year old ( was beaten by Brown
Dick in three heats, Whirlwind winning the so
com! heat, the fastest iu thu race. His second
rave was for the Hutchison stakes over the Wush
iugtou course at Charleston, South Carolina. Hu
was again beaten by Brown Dick in the remark
able short time of H. 42. 1 think him os a race
horse for all distances, superior not only to Whirl
wind, but to any other horse in America.
Whirlwind s third race the same Spring, was
over the Central course, at Macou, Gw. lie there
ran a a weep stakes, two mile hoots, which he won
lu two heats, heating Campbell's Wagner Killy,
Morrison's Monarch volt, and Easley’s colt
—time 3.67, —LM —pur*os2,loo- - truck reported
heavy. On Saturday of the same week, he ran
for the Joeky Club Purse mile heats best three
in live. Col. Golds by'* Cult, Kotigh-utid-Heady,

Colt by Chieftain, were entered against him; the
race was won by Whirlwind the first heat by
Kough-aud-Kuwdy, thu next three by Whirlwind

again beating Invincible ; he was afterwards eu

second boat h* took the lead and maintained it; in
the third heat he led for the first mile and a half,
hand in hand, but owing to the had condition of

that Hrue falling, he slipped and fell, as did both
of the other homos, his rider boiug hurt by the
