Xext Tuesday is election day. Vote
early and quietly, and cast your voto for
Jud Clements. •
See that your tickot has Clements’
name on it before you go to the polls
neat Tuesday.
The pessonger travel on the IV. &
A. railroad, for the past few weeks, has
been immense.
• Every week brings a now Hlchmoud
in the Held. “Oh ye brave, who rush to
glory or tho grave.”
This too • cold - for - beor-nnd-not-cold-

out the overcoats.
It is said that an abundance of chest
nuts will bo gathered from tho neighbor-
ing woods and mountains.
If elected Jud Clements will make the
best congressman this district has had in
years. Voto for him by all moans.
TllOSE Indebted to this office for sub:

Old John Robinson will exhibit here

It is said that tho State road authorl-
lies will dispute tho right of tho S. It. &
D. road to cross its tracks at Dalton. If
this is a success it will be forced to rnako
ballon its terminus again,
The cotton trade of Dalton is nssum-
ing large proportions. Up to the presont
writing the receipts of cotton have boon
about three thousand bales, which is
considerably in excess of the previous
year.
Murray Connty.
Mr. Dally Gregory, while cleaning out
tho motes from’a running cotton gin, got
his left hand caught In tho saws, and It
was so badly mnnglod that amputation
was ncccssnry—it being tnkun off near tho
elbow. Tho operation wns performed by
Drel Gordon and Hammond. This Is
nnothor of tho mnny warnings to careful-
ucss to those who nro engaged running
cotton gins.
Tho cotton crop In this county Is unus
ually flue, yielding muoh better than wns
anticipated, and greatly In excess of any
previous year. It is estimated that not
less than three thousand hales will be
niado In tho county.
Mr. W. II. Staples has recently mnda
quite nil Improvement In tho mercantile
business of Spring Place, by pulling up
an excellent stook of dry. goods, etc., on
tho cornor opposite tho post-office. Mr.
S. is a good busiuess man and wo bespeak
for him success in his now outorpvisc.
Politics are very quiet horo now. Slnco

(s ovor, tlie interest as to other offices
sooms to have somewhat subsided. lVu
will, howovor, on tho 2d day of Novem
ber roll up a rousing majority for Ilnu-

considerable gnhi for tho latter over tho
oloction two years ago; and if tho other
counties of the district will bo ns trua to

^Old" John Robinson is billed for this
plnco noxl Saturday week, November 0.
Tills celebrated circus nnd menagerie is
spoken of in the most laudablo terms by
the press of tho country, ns being tho
best and most completo exhibition) now
traveling. The following is from tho
Lynohberg Virginian: “John Robinson’s
show yesterday wns a grand success, not
only in point of tho attendance, which
was immense, but in the excellence, tho
vnrioty and completeness of tho exhibi
tion. To tell of the many wonderful an
imals, the flue horses nad sprightly dogs,
the marvellous feats of horsemanship
nnd gymnastics, tho witticisms of Low-
low, that prince of clowns, aud countless
other features would lead us far beyond
tho limits of our space. Sufficient to say
that tho exhibition was one of the best,
if not tho best, our people have ever yet
seen, and that Old John’s great show will
bo welcomed to Lynchberg whenever it
shall come.”
Venus nnd Jupiter nro now so sltua-
tod with respect to one another that they
form a peculiarly attractive feature of
the evening sky. JuBt aftor sunset, aud
long before any other star, except Jupi
ter, becomes visible, Venus may be scon,
ns whilo and round as a drop of silver,
shiuing through tho yellow haze la the
west. At tho same time Jupiter, rising
in tho cast, looks yet moro lustrous
against tho dark background formed by
tho earth’s advancing shadow. Thus
tho two planets may bo watched for an
hour, tho ono rising whilo tho other
sinks, as if their steps were timed pre
cisely together. Every cyo will readily
allow tho precedence In brilliancy to Ju
piter, who, however, only in his periheli
on splondor is ablo to outshine the bril
liant Venus.
