A HonuiOLK murder wus committed
near Jonesboro, In this State, ou the
20th Inst, by a negro? fiend named Tom
Betts. His victim wns Judge J. II,
Moore, a prominent citlzon of Clayton
county, aged about 70 years. Judgo M,
had sold that day two bales of cotton in
Jonesboro, for which he had received tho
money, aud after returning homo and
while pultiug up,his mules, the negro
Betts, who lmd followed him, knocked
him In tho bond with a maul and killed
him. Aftor robbing tho body of about
one hundred dollars Betts attempted to
make his escape, but was captured and
the monoy recovered. In order to pre-
vont bis faeiag lynched, Betts was carried
to Atlanta, where lie now is. This was
a most atrocious murder, and the people
are naturally very Indignant.
