Brilliant Dance, i
One of the most delightful events of
I the holidays was the dance given Mon-
[day evening by the Cherokee Club, in
[the chubrooms on Hamilton street, as
a compliment to the young college set
home for the holidays and a number
1 0 f visitors to Dalton.
Billy Boring’b orchestra from Chat-
I tanooga rendered the dance music, and
there were many visitors here from
Calhoun, Borne, Chattanooga, Cleveland,
Cartersville and other neighboring ci
ties and towns, there being upward of
| one hundred present to enjoy the de
lightful dance.

Lasater-Howell.
Miss Mabel Claire Lasater, an at
tractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.
N. Lasater, and Mr. Raymond Glenn
Howell, of Waynesville, N. C., will be
married this afternoon at the home of
the bride on Route 2, Dalton, the wed
ding being an event of much interest
throughout the county.

Mr. Hetties’ Dinner.
Mr. Van F. Kettles entertained a
few friends at an informal dinner Fri
day evening, the affair being one of
genuine pleasure to all.
It was a stag affair, covers being
laid for Mayor W. E. "Wood, Dr. Johu
Steed, Messrs. J. B. Chitwood, T. S.
Shope, T. D. Ridley, Will McNally, Rem-
bert Kettles and T. S. McCamy.
A delicious dinner was served, and
after the dinner, cigars were passed,
the crowd remaining for "a pleasant
evening.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Combee Entertain.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Combee'bntertain-
ed Sunday with a Christmas dinner at
their home. Covers were laid for
twenty, and the house was beautifully
decorated with the Christmas colors.

Willie McCamy, Louise Street, Mattie
Xucklps and Mary Hammomtileei of
Chattanooga; Minnie and Jess Ham-
montree of Reo; Ashby Crowley and
Ellen Combee of Atlanta, Messrs. Clar
ence Lunsford, Paul and die Combee of
Atlanta; Rice Morgan of Lyerly.

Dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Harry Looper.
Mrs. S. W. Looper entertained at
a delightful, informal, 6 o’clock dinner
Monday evening at her home on Thorn
ton avenue for Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Looper. The dining room was cozy and
inviting with its shaded lights and
Christmas festoons, and the very at
mosphere was filled with the Christmas
spirit. Covers were laid for eight.

Puryear-Downs.
One of the most interesting events
of the holiday season was the wedding
of Miss Lueile Puryear to Mr. Claude
Downs, of Conyers, the ceremony having
taken place on Sunday afternoon, Dee.
26, at 3 o’clock at the surburban borne
of the bridge’s mdthqjr, M!rs. Nancy
Puryear.
Dr. G. L. Chastain, of Rome, per
formed the impressive ring ceremony
in the presence of relatives and a few
intimate friends.
The home was decorated with mistle
toe and wreaths of holly and softly
lighted with red and. green candles.
There were no attendants. The bride
was dressed in her going-away eostnme
of brown suede velour with accessories
to match. Immediately after the cere
mony they left for a short wedding
trip, after which they will be at home
at Convers, Ga., where the groom hold.?
a responsible position with the Bank
of Conyers.
Among the out-of-town guests for
the occasion were Mr. Fargason, of Con- .
years; Messrs. Foster and Lundsford, o*
Atlanta and Mr. Fred Puryear, of Nash
ville.
Mrs. Downs is
members of these societies are cordial
ly invited to be present and to come
bringing some “eats.” The girls are
to bring sandwiches, cakes and pickles;
the boys fruit and candy. The en
tertainment committee ^,‘has provided
music, readings, games, etc., so that not
a dull moment will 'be had^ from be-
gining to end. The hours are from 7
to 10 o’cloek.

the first meeting of the new year Mon
day evening, January 3„ at 7:30 at the

Lamar Westcott and Mrs. E. C. Coffey.

Mr. and Mrs. John Black, of Dalton,
announce the engagement of their sister,
Martha Ethel, to Mr. Ralph Edward
Nolan, the marriage to be solemnized
January 18th.
The above announcement, appearing
in the Atlanta Journal of Sunday, will
be read with cordial interest here where
Miss Black formerly lived and has
hosts of warm friends and admirers.
She was a daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. John Black and lived here
up to a few years ago wjjien she w§nt
to New York City graduating there as
a trained nurse. She tendered her ser

Miss Pauline Hunter and Miss Saran
Duane were hostesses at a delightful
Christmas party Tuesday evening at
their home on South Thornton avenue.
The home was artistic in its Christmas
decorations, and from a brilliantly il
luminated Christmas tree, gifts were
presented the guests as souvenirs of
the happy occasion.
Dancing and progressive conversa
tion made the evening one of genuine
pleasure, a delicious salad course and
hot ehoclate being served.
There were about sixty guests present
to enjoy the occasion with the hostesses.

tractive daughter of Mrs. Thomas Reed,
being a young woman of much charm
who is admired and loved by many
friends.
Mr. "Wrench is a trusted member of
the office force of Barrett, Denton &
Lynn company, and is well liked by all
who know him.
They have the best wishes of many
friends in their new relation.
