Rules of Retail Mail Order Houses
Twelve commandments make up
the decalouge of the retail mail
order house.
These commandments were not
written on a stone by Moses, but
they are thoroughly understood
and fnque. tly bumped into by
any one who deals with the cata¬
logue mail-order concerns.
Following are the twelve com¬
mandments, which thoroughly in¬
dicate tin" business side of these
concerns:
T1113 C() M M A N D M ENTS :
1 You shall sell your farm
produce for cash whenever you can
but not to us ; we do not buy from
you.
2. You shall believe our state¬
ments and buy all you need from
us because we want to be good to
you, although we are not ac¬
quainted with you.
8. You shall send in the mon¬
ey in advance to give us a chance
to get the gout)s from t he factory
with your money; meanwhile you
have to wait patiently a few weeks
because that is our business meth¬
od.
1 Send us your money and we
will skin you on the quality of the
goods.
5 You shall buy your church
hells and interior church fixtures
from us and forward the money
no advance for this is our business
method.
0. You shall collect from the
business men in your vicinity as
much money as you can for the
benefit of your churches Al¬
though we get more money from
you than they do, still it is
against, our rules to donate money
for building country churches.
7. You shall buy your tools
from us and be vour own mechan¬
ic in order to drive the mechanic
from your vicinity, for we wish it
eo.
8. You will induce your neigh
bor to buy everything from us as
we have more room for money.
9. You shall often look at the
beautiful catalogue so your wishes
will be increased and you will
send in a big order, although you
are not in immediate need of the
goods; otherwise you might have
some money left to buy necessary
goods from your local nierceant.
10. You shall have the me¬
chanics that repair the goods you
buy from us book the bill ho that
you can send the money for his
labor to US for new goods, other¬
wise he will not notice our influ¬
ence.
11. You shall believe us in
preference to your local dealer.
12. You shall, in case of acci¬
dent, sickness or need, apply to
your local dealers for aid and
credit as we do not know you.

The Dairy Cow.
The dairy cow does more than
bring financial success to the dai
ry farmer. She makes him a bet
ter citizen than he would other- I j
wise be. Her influence upon home
conditions is a most pleasing con¬
tribution to those factors which
are responsible for the changed
conditions winch prevail in the
farm homes of today. Thousands
of these homes are now character¬
ized by comfort and happiness
where formerly they were blighted
by drudgery and unhappiness.
Better financial conditions have
contributed to this change, and
the dairy cow lias been in no small
measure responsible. She has
contributed m still another way.
file dairy cow teaches kindness.
Her owner soon learns that only
by*treating her kindly can he se¬
cure the highest possible returns
from her, and she responds quick¬
ly to kind words and proper care.
Her disposition is one that /the
human family might well emu¬
late. She is patient and long suf¬
fering, acquiescing mutely in the
arrangements made b v her
owner for carrying on
business, striving at all
times to repay him for every effort
for her care and comfort.
The mom hers of the family, as
come in contact with her and
her kindly disposition, are influ¬
for good As they appre¬
the financial benefit to come
curing for her well they
u deeper interest in her. In
so they unconsciously cul¬
those qualities which make
better citizens.
The dairy cow—the prototype
man’s best, friend—is wielding
greater influence than she is
credited with. She has
been found in the front
in the march of civilization
no agricultural country can
prosper without her. She is
potent factor in the upbuilding
such a prosperous country, fi¬
and socially, and a
people will appreciate her
encourage the industry of
she is the foundation.
