We understand that this road is now in
funds, and wilt remi - , during the present week,

This will place the road clear of debt, so that
)t* future earnings can go to replenish the
Treasury of the Slate. This is perhap<, the
only important railway in ihe South that ha*
been able to liquidate the full amount of its ob
ligations to the Government, and when we con
sider this imp rtant foot in connection with the
additional fact that the road is now in 1 otter
condition, and has a better supply of rolling
ptock, than stunt any ether road South if the
Potouiio, it is no ordinary commendation ofits
efficient management. When Major W allaca
ivas appointed Superintendent of this road, he
found it in a very indifferent condition most of
the bridges weie temporary and unsafe affairs,
the rolling stock wua scant and of an indifferent
quality, and the road war greatly in debt to
th ■ Government. Now it in in superior condi
tion, well supplied with stoek, and is out of debt.
No higher commendation eou'd be p-onaunced in
