OUR PUBLISHER-
W« hire second the services of Mr, T. II
Morgan, an old and practical printer, Who will
hereafter hava entir; control of the mechanical
part of the paper Parties wishing Job work
done, can hare it executed in neat etyle, on
abort notice,
rniTHFHN RECORDER—
Front the following, it will be seen that,
this old and reliable journal is offered for
sale. The proprietor says:
‘•After forty eight years of contimieus
editorial life and labor upon the Recorder,
the Senior Editor wishes to retire, to follow
a more quiet life, and one freer from per
plexing cares. He buds himself in the eve*
•ting of bis days, willing of relinquishment
of those co..tests of a political nature bet
ter RuiteJ to younger men.
“The Jnn'or Editor also desires to retire
as bis health requires a more active and
out door life. He would nevertheless re
tain his ’pi esent position, provided be is
suited in a copartner in the business.
OUR APPEARANCE -
We present to our readers, this week, a
somewhat improved sheet, but still there is
roorii for a great deal more. We intend
to spate no pains in making the Herald a
welcome visitor to every fire-Bide and
countißg.room. We ask our friends to aid
us by their patronage and influence, in ex*
tending the circulation of the Herald.—
Our motto is, “live and let livo.”

DENTISTRY—
Dr. Wm. Morgan havijg permanently loc
rated in our city, he requests us to say to
bis numerous friends, that he may be found
at all times, unless professionally absent,
at his office upstairs over Adler’s store, on
Main street. The Dr. ii prepared to do all
work in his line with neatness and dispatch,
and on the most reasonable terms. Hu pro«

pain to the patient. Give h im’your pate

PHOTOGRAPHY.
We have before us a specimen of phot-g-apVy
which eelipses anything we have ever seen from
any Southern Gallery. Whilst the Artist had
a poor subject on which to display bis skill, the
picture is life-like and neat. The Artist who
did this magnificent work is Mr. 0. R. Line, o*
Atlanta. We would say coour friends who wish
to behold the “human face divine,” th t they
will find no better Photographer in the South,
Mr. Lane’s work hss received the highest enco*
miums from the Atlanta press, but an examina
tion of his pictures is a more conclusive evidenoe
of their superiority.
TETERSON'S MAGAZINE-,
We arc in the receipt of this popular La*'
dy'e Magazine for December, lit is a beau
tiful number, quite ‘ahead of the field ”
This Magazine, in consequence of its merit
and cheapness, had, in 1867, a larger circu
lation than all the other Ladies Magazines
combined. In 1868 it will be greatly im
proved: the reading matter will be in
creased, and each number will contain a
Dould.e-siee Steel Fashion IMate, elegantly
colored, and a Colored Pattern in Berlin
Work, ‘Peterson’ isTcally the cheapest in
the world: and everybody ought to sub

A’EV. DR. MEANS-
The Methodist Church and the communi
ty at large, will regrot to lose the services
of this able and learned Divine. Dr. Means
carries with him the best wishes of our peo
ple. The last Sabbath he visited us, the
day was too inclement for service, his fare"
w ell stanzas wiH be found elsewhere.
‘ NOT AT ALL STRANGE’— ~~
A lady (Fiend of ours, while on a visit to
one of the New England States last sum
mer, attended a tea party, and in the course
of conversation among the invited guests, a
New Englander remarked that it was quite
strange that there was no yellow fever at
New Orleans while Butler was there with
his army. ‘{Not at all strange,” replied ths
