THOMAS R. THORNTON—
It is with the deepest sadness we chroni
cle the sudden death of our highly esteem
ed friend, fellow citizen and teacher, Thom
fcs R. Thornton, Esq., whicho enrred at his
residence near Union Point, Greene coun
ty, Ga., Decembci 2d, 1867, in the 40lb
year of his age.
In the decease of Squire Thornton, the
county in which be was born and where his
lile was wholly spent, has lost one of its
most worthy citizens, Asa man and as a
Christian, be wasexceedi glv plain and un
assuming and of most sterling integrity.’
as a Justice of the Peace, which position he
filled for a number of years, he was nuld
yet meted out justice with an impartial
hand: as a teacher, he was very successful
and much respected and beloved by ab lus
pupils; as a neighbor, ha was kind and
obliging, and to the poor h was indeed a
friend: as a husband and father, he was ex
ceedingly affectionate. During his whole
life he bore himself with such un mp.ed
fidelity to all his engagements, that it has
justly been said of him, “His word was as
good as his bond.” He retained to the last
without a single exception, the esteem and
confidence of all who knew him, and no
man could have been taken from this com
inanity who would have been more grea J
missed or deeply lamented. And but for,
the unconscious stupor which beclouded ms
last moments, we could hope tor some ex
pressions of trustful eonfidenoe in his hea
venly Master, whom he so humbly served
which would not only have cheered his de
parting hours, but also (he, hearts Ins
numcro is friends end loved-nnes, who are
left to mourn their sad bereavement. ,
REV. J. W. TALLEY—
It will he seen, by reference to the list of
appointments by tho Nortb-Georgia Con
ference, that Rev. J. M. Dickey, of Wars
renton, has been assigned to tho Greenes
boro 1 Station, to fill the place of the good
brother, whoso namo heads this art'cle.—
Like a faithful servant. Mr. Talley has la
bored assiduously in our midst (or the pro
motion of Christ’s kingdom. »e goes to
the South Cfeorgia Conference, where we
pray his labors will be m ire abundantly
blessed. 'I he community era but regret to
part with his excellent family, who have
endeared themselves to our people by the
strongest ties of affection.

DR. J. R. GOUKIN—
We inadvertently failed to call ihe at

of the above gentleman. Asa tokeo of
his popularity, the Dootor is receiving at
the hands of the public, a wide scope of
patronage. Thirteen years of successful
experience in the practice of Medicine is a
sufficient guaranty of his proficiency m the
science.

AUGUSTA, GA,, August 29ch, 1867,
Having closely inspected the Patent Plow of
the itev. F F Reynolds l take pleasure in say
ing, that in my it should attrac* the
attention of the Agricultural Community. Asa
Cotton and Corn Cultivator, it must prove emi.
nently, useful and satisfactory. It is so oonstruct
ed that any form of Plow-share can be used up
on the same Stock. It combines simplicity,
lightness and strength, and from the mechanical
pri’ oiple*on which it is constructed, it can be
easily managed by any ordinary plow-boy, Mr,
Reynolds is a gentleman of chura :ter, and de
serves the confidence and patronage of the pub

JEFFERSON Cos., Ga., July 24th 1867.
Rev. F. F, Reynolds ;
Dear Sir.—l take pleasure in bearing testimo
ny to tbe me '*! of your Patent Plow, I am
using twelve of them in the cultivation of my
present crop, Asa Turn-Plow, and as a Stock
for every other kind of Plow—the beau'y of
work, the lightness of draught and cheapness in
use—it surpasses any I have ever used. And as
to the wot. or dry wea her Sweep with it, it is
the best thing in the cultivation of "Corn, or Cot
ton I have ever used or seen in use. Upon tbe
whole. I look upon yours as the cheapest aud
best Plow the peoplo can use.
Youra Respectfully,
T. W. HOWELL,
WARREN Connty, Ga,, March !6th 1867,
J certify that I have in use tbo Reynolds
Plow on my plantation, and fiud it a most per
feot success, It has done work for me that no
ot*'-r plow ever did, and X take pleasure in re
mmending it to farmers generally. I have
used every turn plow that I could get and
none of them would turn my land. The Reynold’s
Plow turned the same land beautifully.
