the North will supply them with no mors

Tue-Alleoed Attempt to Sell British
Neoro Suiijects in Virginia.——The
schooner Alice Rogers, which was seized
a few days ago by the federal authori
ties of'Virginia, on Hdmpton Roods, is
likely to lead to complications. The
consignees are English subjects, doing
business in Philadelphia, and havo
called the attention of the British Min?
ister to the foots, and jbave asked him to
intercede with dur government in their
behalf. Lord Lyonp, the British Min-
. ister, has called upon Secretary Cobs,
. and laid the mattor before our govern
ment; He asks,in behalf of his subjects
that the cargo may • be released; The
Captain, as ho- js a British subject, will
bo handed over to tho English authori
ties to be dealt with aq they may think
proper. The facts in the, case, as deri
ved from one'of the consignees, mfo as
followst-*^ «liwm-3^.1 nOfufwT
. The schooner Alice Rogers, loaded with
a cargo of fish at St. John, New Brnns-
Wiok, and landed her cargo at Jamaica.
She was chartered at Jamaica by D., N.
Watzkar & Co., for Philadelphia, and
loadod with Sugars and wood. The
Captain while' there shipped two
freo negro boys of their own free will.
The Captain called into Hampton Roads
and offered to sell the two boys, in con
sequence of which tho authorities of
Virginia have seized tlie Captain, vessel
and cargo, and libeled the same.—
Neilher the consignees at Philadelphia,
nor tho shippers, it is alleged, had any
knowledge of the negroes being on
board.

was conciliatory. The action of the

the nomination of their favorite, with a
desire to accomplish his defeat before
