Standard Weights and Measures Sup*
plied to the Counties of Georgia.
In reply to the question we put a few
weeks since, we have received the foL
lowing satisfactory reply from J. W.
Ktesam:
New York, May 8, 1860.
[ -Editor of Home Courier, Borne, Ga. ?
Sir—I noticed in the columns of your
iely circulated journal, a query ro
oting the standard Weights, Meas-
i and Scales, made by usjor the
otios of your State.
reply would state that all the
aties of your State are short of some
he above articles.
['e received the order in that partic-
. form. The Governor supposing
I each of the smaller measures, etc.,
, by duplicating, be made to answer
fctho next larger one. Thus two of
i Quarts would answer for the Half
gallon, and two of the half peoks for
the peck and so on. By so doing would
•save much cost, and bring the whole
■within the range of the appropria
tion
requesting the papers which may have
copied to do the same,
You willobligo,
••,-Y . Yours Respectfully,
J. W. Kissam.

Washington, May 10.—SeNat*.—The
Hon. James H. Green, of Missduri; re
ported a bill of the House for the .admis
sion of Kansas into the Union. He'
said that he would propose an amend]
ment, securing Southern property there
in. ••
The Hon. Stephen A. Douglas, of Illi

The Hop. Jefferson Davis, of Missis

speech.
Congressional.
Washington, May 17.—House passed
the Post Office Defficicncy Bill, with
amendments restoring suspended mail
service, and appropriating $60,000 for
Isabel service.
Black Republican Convention.
CniCAno, May 17.—In tho Black Re
publican convention, and after consid
erable debate, the majority rule was
adopted. Seventeen States wore repre
sented in tho convention, being a ma
jority of the States.
It is expected tho Convention will
proceed to ballot for candidates this af
ternoon. Seward’s chances are impro
ving with a fair ohanoe of being nomi
nated.
From Washington.
Washington, May 17.—An address,
to tho National Democrats of the South,
signed by eighteen Southern Democrat
ic Congressmen, urging tho Seceders
from tho Charleston Convention to nt-
teend (lie adjourned session in Baitimoie
the 18th of
Ti.. ,ii i , °n the 18th of Juno, was published
By giving the above an insertion and in the “Constitution” newspaper this
morning, accompanied with approbato
ry editorial remarks.
, A Fickle Leader.—During the ses
sion of the Charleston Convention, Sen
ator Toombs telegraphed to the Georgia
delegation to insist upon a sound plat
form with a Southern man upon it; and,
if not granted, to bolt the Convention.
The Macon Telegraph, of Thursday,
publishes the following despatch, sent
by a citizen of Augusta to a friend in
tne former city:
’’Augusta, May 8.—Mr. Toombs Tel
egraphs mo to say to you, that the South
ern members have agreed to a recom
mendation to tho seceding States uH to
go to Baltimore for reunion. No new
State conventions.”
It is thus that Senator Toombs march
es the Georgia Democracy up the hill,
and then marches them down again.—
The next order,' no doubt, will be to
take the first hollow they come to!—Savannah
