to be brave in peace as they were in
war. -The early winds of spring—the
February and March winds are of more
account than you dream of. They are
blowing the dead leaves out of the for-
rest. They are blowing the dead duoks
far out to sea. They are clearing avvny
the debris—wheeling the little stioks
hither and yon. Bolling, (lying and
eddying, around (he leaves and the
leaves and Lwiggs are leaving their late
resting place, and it will not be long,
Bill, before all this rubbish will be . re
moved and the grass and flowers will
again beautify the oarth'as before. And
there shall be no more prowling—ho
more ponchers. The man at the other
end of the avenue is not a clown, buf
foon, a vulgar jestar, a low wit, a boor
ish story teller. Ah 1 no Bill I llo is
a very good man and you Will like him.
Wo like him because he is just. The
pebple like him beoause he is generous
and statesmanlike. .
We have been haying sopao little
trouble dp this Way Bill. The rovellers
who lately sat in our banquet hall were
kibtben scullions, but they are going
home soon. And when they have alt
gone, wo shall have a very nice party
there. Time is loosening thu loo in
the river. Some of us no how' jou
folks have been used nnd We are telling
others.
Not long sinoo when we told people
that our people when fighting your peo
ple were stealing themselves rich, they
said wo were disloyal and put us in
prison. And 1 they pulled down our
printing offices. They threw our ty| e
into rivers. They-mobbed • us in our
places of business. ' They shot at, and
ivounded us oil the street. They with
held business from us. They sought to
array the people of the. North pgainst
those who believed in t°Mng fair. They
qid. all these things in the name-of Gad
and tile great moral party ! But spring
fashions are now coming on Bill, and in
a little while you and 1 will meet some-

Were cliarged with crihics—robbery,
larceny, &c. The reason assigned for;
this liberation of thieves and robbers
is, that the persons oburgod with tho

I am unwilling to bolievq that this
report is true. I feel quite suro that
neither the President nor apy high 1
military offioer of the United Stated
would.countenance theft or robbery in
Union mon any soonor than in rebel*.
The groat Law Giver has left on reebrd,'
"Thou shall not steal," and l am very
confident that the military authorities
will not protect from a just punishment
any one he ho Union man or traitor,!
who is guilty of violating both Ih'o lAw
of God and of theStato.
I write this that the military author
ities in Georgia may see it and correct
u report that is giving muoli dissatisfac
tion j and if the U. S. soldiers have
done, without authority what is report
ed, that they may bo punished fbr their
conduct.
If the military authorities have pre
vented the trial ol men, charged by

better reason for it that the' one assign-'

The House Inst night defeated the

It is reported that the famous “Bill

“Artemus Ward,” had full audiences
