To be entitled an act for the relief of
the people of Georgio, and to prevent
the levy atnl sale of property under
certain circumstances, and within a
limited period.
Whereat, During the late war,' the
State of Georgia lias been overrun by
tbe opposing armies—the accumulated
corps and agricultural stock in a great
measure destroyed—the Confederate
indebtedness held by tbo people ,in ex
change for tbeir products has become
valueless—the obligations of the (State,
eagerly sought after as n safe invest-
ment, have been repudiated—theacou-
lalod capital of neurly a century, rep
resented by slave labor, amounting to
nearly threo hundred millions of dol
lars, has been destroyed, and the pros
pect of successful agriculturp, the bases
of all values, now dependent on the
voluntary labor of tbe freedmen, is a
question of doubt and experiment—

Sec. 1st. The General Assembly of
Georgia do enact, That there shall be no
levy or sale of property of defendants
in tliis Slate, under any execution,
founded on any judgment, order or do.-
crce, of any court, heretofore or here
after to be rendered upon any contract
or liability made or incurred prior to
tho passaged this act; Provided, . the
said defendant shall pay or cause tj> be
paid, during epch year, one-iburth-ipait
of the amount of principal and inter
ests of such execution; or - of the
debtor olsim on which such execution
has been or may hereafter bd“obtained,
so 'bat the entire indebtedness Bhall be
paid in the four years from thefiMtday

moving their property, or fraudulently
conveying, secreting, or concealing the

support of widows and orphans, nor to
distress warrants for rent when the rent
reserved is in kind.
