SEMI-WEEKLY.
DISASTROUS WRECK
ON W. AND T. ROAD.
SANDERSVILLE, GEORGIA, SEPTEMBER 28, 1907.
ESTABLISHED IN 1841
The Wreck Occured Near
Wrightsville Tuesday.
Several Injured.
A mixed train in charge of Con
ductor A. H. Stephens of Teuuille
wft8 wrecked about one mile from
Wrightsville last Tuesday after
noon and several passengers were
injured.
Engineer Stokes was badly
bruised and scalded, but while his
injuries are reported quite serious,
they are not fatal and he will
probably soon be out again. He
saved himself by jumpiug from
the engine as it was turning over.
Among those reported most
seriously wounded among the pas-
seugers is Mr. W. L, Joiuer of
Dublin.
The wreck was , caused by a
freight car jumping the track.
The engine turned completely
over, and every car left the track,
tearing the couplings and thus
probably preventing the cookies
from being thrown over.

The Washington Association
met with Long Creek church Sep
tember 17. The attendance was
largo during the entire three days,
but especially bo on the secoud
day when the estimate was eigh
teen hundred people. •
The body was organized by re
electing their moderator and clerk
P. H. Taliaferro and M. L. Dug
gan, respectively.
The reports were good and ably
discussed, but we regret to note a
decrease in some collections.
For some of the important ob
jects the reports show the follow*
ing amounts collected:

The brethren planned great
things for the ensuing year and I
beliove the old Washington will
go forward as never before. Ten
thousand dollars will be raised
for Mercer’s endowment, to be
paid in five years. The hospitali
ty of the people could not have
been excelled and it seems that
everybody enjoyed the occasion
very much.

THE REAL ESTATE
MARKET VERY ACTIVE.
Lots are Changing Hands
and Home Buying
is the Order.
Atlanta, Sept. 28.—At the
meeting of the Methodist Minis
ters’ Association today Bishop
Warren A. Candler roundly scor
ed what he termed "effeminate re
ligion," of which he says there is
entirely too much in these days
and times,
"There is too much of this ef
feminate religiou," said Bishop
Candlor. “I beg the women’s
pardon for using that word, but
my vocabulary is limited. I don’t
speak English—-merely Georgia.
“A man gets up itt the pulpits,
sets one foot nicely before the
other," (the Bishop laid aside his
cane, to give a pratical illustra
tion, )'*puts hie thumb in his per
fumed vest pocket so, cocks his
head on one side and lets out a
flow of rhetoric. Then he turns
the music over to a lot of women
who sing a dainty little song fit
to put a baby to sleep.
"Do you think that a live man
who has been the day before to a
political meeting, where they
made rousing speeches on real
topics and sang campaign songs,
has any opinion of that? What
we need is a virile religion.
"I have often thought, ‘What
does the average mau think of
this effeminate religion And these
dainty lullabies?’ I don’t mind
telling you what I often do when
I go to a Churoh like that—I get
in some comfortable place and go
to sleep. When a man trifles with
religiou it’s a good thing to do—
but you musu’t snore.”

The unusual activity in the real
estate market in Sandersville is a
good sign of the city’s prosperity.
Never before, perhaps, have so
many people wanted homes iu the
city and Sandersville promises
soon to be a city of home owners.
Very recently the Sandersville
Investment Company has entered
the market for all the lots at a
fair price that can be bought and
this company, backed by ample
capital, is affording the poorer
people and those with moderate
incomes an opportunity to buy
homes on such terms as will en<
able them to pay lor them with*
out inconvenienoe.
The company is backed by am
ple capital and if anyoue contin
ues to pay rent in Sandersville it
is his own fault. The company
will build a home for those who
cannot find one ready built to
suit them, as they have lots in
different sections of the’eity.
