and about nine inches long by three
wide. These paper receptacles contain
the last relies of the unfortunate
whose life history is condensed by (he
sexton of the municipality of Phila
delphia into the two word*, “Found
dead.” These envelopes have been
accumulating during the term of the
present Coroner, and as there is no
provision of statute for their final
disposition will, in all probability, ac
cumulate until the expiration of of
fice of the same official. Watclies,
chains,jewelry of nearly ail sorts;
delicately wrought articles of clothing
or personal ornamentations, such a“
exquisitely embroidered liankcr

frightful looking pistols of antique
Dutch pattern and brightly polished

requisitions of the relatives, who,
when the intrinsic value is not a! ovc
three or four dollars or so, can have

and even live years elap-e beiorc l lie
relatives claim thoto effects and by
reason of the delay it frequently be
comes difficult to clearly prove the re
lationship. However, neither the
Coroner nor Deputy Aslihridge take
any risk In the matter. When the the
property is so valuable that it might
be a temptation to tal-e sweating,
Coroner Powers demands letters of
administration from the applicants.

is contained in the envelopes. Paper
currency is sometimes found. One
envelope is endorsed “William John
