Dun axd Lmxo Mimes.—While solid food,
air and water are passing into the tiring body to
supply the waste which ia the concomitant and the
eonditioo of the production of the fonts of life,
an uninterrupted stream, constituting that waste,
is passing from the body. In health, the greater
portion of the food becomes an integral part of the
body, and baring served its time in that capacity,
Anally leaves it in the form either of water, of car
bonic add gM, or or a crystalline substance known
as urea. Theee’iubetanccs are separated from the
blood by the excretory organs, of which there are
three, the akin, the lungs end the kidneys. Of
theM the skin gives off principally water, the longs
principally water and carbonic add, and the kidneys
principally water and area. The longs not only act
as organa of direct excretion, hot have aleo another
function. By tho agency of the longs the blood is
supplied with oxygen, which, acting chemically npon
the used-up tueno-p articles throughout the system,
remodels them into the new and simpler excretive
forms- The excretory processes depend closely
npon the supply of well digested end duly assimi
lated food; and whan the health ia suffering from
the insufficient action of the skin or kidneys, this
is beet rectified by improving the tone of the stom
ach end liver, by ruing Dr. Fiech's unequaled Bit-

abused and modi abased human body. It iano

tore in order to euro him of a disease in which pain
ia already undermining the energies of hie system.
True science ranges itself on the aide of nature,
and endeavors to assist her in bar fight against dis
ease. Tbit is the province of Hostetler's Stomach
Bitters, the moat approved tonic ever advertised In
this country. It may be recommended aa a fall
sedicint, par excellence; for it is in the fall that
biliousness, dyspepsia and malaiiotu fevers ere es
pecially prevalent. The frame, exhausted by the
heats of summer, ia relaxed and feeble at its dose,
and requires, we may say demand* artificial assist
ance- Afford it that assistance in occasional doses
of Hoatetter'a Stemach Bitters, and the evils re
ferred to may be escaped. Throughout tho far
West, and on the steaming alluvial of the Southern
river*, all the varieties of periodical fever are prob
ably rife to-day. Had a course of Hoe tetter's Bit-
ten been oommanoed by tho rufferon a month ago,

A CraiosiTT.—Mr. John G. Eckman, a ma
chinist of this city, brought ur for examination
yesterday a small model locomotive engine,
built in England in 1825 or 1826, and brought
to this oountry shortly after, to illustrate on a
ffmell circular track, the operation of steam rail
way transportation. For this purpose it was
exhibited all ovor America, by the English en
gineer who brought it over. After be was dead,
bis widow offered it for solo at the Bosque
hannah Shops in Baltimore, where Mr. Eckman
was working and the latter bought it of tho wi
dow, is a curiosity, twenty-eight years ago. Mr.
Eckman thinks of exhibiting it at the fair. The
engine is not more than a foot long and in
general form is not very much unlike the
modern locomotive.
Tax Race To dat.—There will, doubtless, be
quite a huge attendance this afternoon at the
Trotting Park, to witness the match between
four of the beet trotters in this section. The
horses are all in fine condition and well matched
os to speed, and it wiU be a close snd exciting
raoe. The race is for a purse of $250—mile
beats—beat three in five, and for which four
entries have been made. If it does not rain
to-day, tbs track will be in splendid condition,
and the nags will make their best time. As all
the gate money goes to the city and toward the
farther ornamentation and beautifying the
Park, wa hope to see a largo crowd of ladies and
gentlemen present. The strictest order and de
corum will bo enforced by officers of tho polioe
force, detailed for tho purpose.
Messrs. Edgar Strong, W. H. Ross and Maj.

A PortxAB Place.—We met a friend yester
day on Second street, who was looking so plea
sant, smiling and self-satisfied, thet we became
interested in hie condition, for nearly other
man we meet now-a-days is looking cross, sour
or long-faced about the dullness of trade and
horrid state of tho weather, and wo inquired
of our friend what streak of good luck he bad
struck that was having such a fine effect npon
him. “Why,” said he, “I am just from Ed.
Fan’s Merchants' Exchange, where I got the
beet dinner I have bad in months. It was pre
pared in such elegant and palatable style, and
the attention I received was so polite tad kind,
that it put me in good humor with myself and
mankind generally. If yon would feel as I do,
go to the Merchants' Exchange when you ore
hungry or dry, and Fan will send you away re

tributed tho “milt of human kindness.”

Synopsis of Wcatlicr Statement.

Washington, D. G., September 21,7:40, r.H)
Tho area of high barometer which was Wed
nesday afternoon over Wisconsin and Lake Su
perior, has moved Kontheast and east into Penn
sylvania and Now York. Tho low pressure in
Georgia is probably now eaat of Florida. North
and northwesterly winds have prevailed in the
middle and Eastern States, with diminishing
strength during tho day. Northerly winds in
the Gnif States with cloudy weather on the im
mediate Atlantic coast. Brisk southeast winds
and falling barometer now prevail west of
Michigan and Indiana Clear weather is every
where reported except on tho Booth Atlantic
coast.
Probabilities : An area of very low barome
ter probably exists north of Nebraska, after
having apparently passed over Oregon on
Wednesday morning. Falling barometer, with
increasing winds from the southeast and south
west are probable far Friday morning, from
Lakes Huron and Superior to the Missouri river.
Westerly winds for the lower lakes; pleasant
weather in the Atlantic and Gnlf States.
New Yobk, September 21.—Samuel J. Tilclan,
chairman of the Democratic State Committee,
was interviwed to-day. Being asked if what is
here entitled the ring, is absolntely devoid of
strength in the county, Mr. Tilden said: “I do
not think it has any solid strength. I told Mr.
Connolly when he first sought au interview with
mo on last Friday, to ask my advice, that he
might as well make np bis mind that, as a
political power, he and all others connected with
the transactions which had excited the pub-
he indignation, had ceased to exist. My
opinion is that the fall must cany down the
organization which these men control. In
other words, the Democratic party of the
city and county mnst be reorganized by an
edict of the Democratic party of the State.
The Democratic party of the nation consists of
4,000,000 of freemen; of the State it consists
of 450,000 oitizens; of the city more than 100,-
000. These vast masses of Democrats can never
conaent that the sole result of their extent
should be that half a dozen men might enrich
themselves by publio plunder, or that when they
just arraign themselves for a national and
Htate battle, they should be impeded and dis
honored by offences of a small knot of local
leaders.”
The committee of seventy this afternoon re-
solved to ask the District Attorney, Garvin, for
permission to appeal by oounsel in the exami
nation and prosecution before Judge Dowling,
of Haggerty, Batch, and Mrs. Haggerty, charged
with stealing vouchers from the Comptroller’s
offioe, and appoint Wm. C. Barrett, as such

ANNOUNCEMENT EXTRAORDINARY!
A little less than one year ago, when this grand
enterprise was organized in Atlanta, Georgia, many
sagacious people predicted failure in its infancy;
but the unprecedented success crowning it every
where it haa been, has satisfied them of the error
of their judgment. No exhibition on the road has
given greater satisfaction, and none have achieved
as great a degree of popularity. Neither labor nor
money has been spared to make it the most expen
sive and choice exhibition on the road, and the
almost daily tremendous audiences applauding the
feats of the different artists, have served to stimu
late the Management to even greater efforts.
Throughout the Middle States and New England,
tho Dominions of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia,
Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton and Newfound
land, there has been but one voice from the prese
and pnblic as to tho intrinsic merits of this mam
moth enterprise. Messrs. WOOTEN A HAIGHT
feel an excusable pride in thns referring to their
repeated triumphs and praise of the world which
has but one verdict as to the high character and
superiority of this first-class arenio and xoological
combination.
