Ordinance No. 345
An ordinance levying a tax to
meet the ordinary and extraordi
nary experses of th> city of Fitz
gerald for the year 1912.
Sec. 1. Be it ordained by the
mayor and council of the city of
Fitzgerald and it is bereby ordain
ed by authority of the same, that
there be and there is hereby levied
a tax of Sixteen and eight-tenths
(.016 8-10) mills on each One Dol
lar, ($1.00) of the assessed value
of the taxable property in said city
for the year 1912, and that said
taxes shall be divided as follows,
to-wit: For ordinary current ex
penses Five Mills, (.005); for ex
tra-ordinary expenses as follows:
For public schools, Five Mills,
( 005); for interest on the City’s
bonded indebtedness, Three and
nine-tenths mills, (.003 9-10); for
a sinking fund with which to pay
the City’s bonded indebtedness
when due Two and nine-tenths
mills (.002 9-10); total sixteen and
Eight-tenths Mills, ( 016 8-10.)
Sec. 2. Be it further ordained
that all ordinances and parts of
ordinances in conflict with this or
dinance be and the same are :ere
by repealed,

South Carolina Farmers’ Union,
has written toall the county presi
dents in his State asking thata
committee of three be appointed
to meet the bank presidents and
chambers of commerce of the dif
ferent counties and endeavor to
reach an agreement as to the
marketing of the cotton crop.
These committees will also report
to a State committee, The Sum.
ter County committee has already
had its meeting and reports that
the banks will provide ample
funds at 6 per cent to carry from
October 1 to May 1 enough cotton
to insure gradual marketing; the
warehouse capacity will be doubled
and farmers are urged to take the
most care possible in picking,
baling and storing so as to secure
cotton of the best grade possible,
aod to have it as presentable as
possible, All tius looks to us like
real business, and we commend
this county’s example to all others
in the Cotton Belt. —The Progres-§
