Over Appointments }
Fight is Coming
Atlanta, July 23—Gov. Brown
sent to the Senate today appoint
ments of four members of the state
Board of Education. It is said the
Governor named the following:
Prof. T, J. Woofter, of the state uni
versity; Dr. G. R. Glenn, president of
the North Georgia Agricultural Col
lege at Dahlonega; Prof. A. H. Moon,
Baxley, and Walter E. Steed, of Tay
lor, the other members being the
Governor and state superintendent of
education, fixed by law.
The Senate received the appoint
yments in executive session and pass
ed a resolution calling on the Gov
emor for information regarding the
terms of members of the present
board. Question was raised in the
Senate as to whether there were
any vacancies on the state board.
It is learned from the executive min
uscs that on Sept. 5, 1911, Gov. Hoke
smith appointed Prof. Thomas G.
Lawson and Prof. J. H. Langston, of
Sylvania, for terms of two years
each. Walter E.Steed was appoint
ed by Governor Brown some time
ago to fill the vacancies caused by
the death of Judge Lawson. So Gov.
Brown in his appointments te-day
displaced two of the Hoke Smith
appointees.
The appointments are subject to
confirmation by the Senate. The
Senate has never confirmed the
Smith appoiUtments, and Governor
Brown considered he had the right
to make new ones. It is said Gev.
Brown'’s appointments will bring on
a hot fight in the Senate, in which
politics may figure. It is probable,
however, that they will be consider
ed in executive session.

Again Stirs Atlanta
Atlanta, July 25—The Atlanta
newspapers, which claimed to have
become rather nauseated with the
Grace “case before excitement over
the affair died down several months:
ago, have begun to smear it all over
their front pages again as the trial
approaches. |
Yesterday at noon one leading af
ternoon paper published witpugregl
eclat in the middle of its front* pas
.a photograph of Mrs. Grace's favorite
pet dog, with an elaborite descrip
tion of the animal, telling how Mrs.
Grace cried over it when'it got lost
.and how she rejoiced at its return.
The other paper, not to be outdone,
publishes in a later edition and with
even greater eclat; a fine photograph ‘
of the Paris gown, please goodness,
that Mrs. Grace is going to wear at
her trial. |
«Interviews with the principals and
prominent lawyers, and with police
officers and everybody else who is
willing to discourse on the subject,
are again beginning to make their
appearance.
By the time the trial actually be
gins public interest will probably be
again worked up to a fever heat

Bleckley County is on the
Map; Barrow Boosters
Defeated
Atlanta, Ga., July 24.—This is
a bappy day forthe friends of
Bleckley county-that-Is-to-be, but
it is a melancholy one for the
grand young county of Barrow
that isn’t-to-be. N
The senate committee, by a vote
of 8 to 1, seni Bleckley county on
its primrose path rejoicing. The
house committee, by a vote of 8 to
14, sent Barrow county into the
outer darkness and gloom of de
spair,
Bleckley is to come from a large
slice off tne north end of Pulaski.
Its county seat will be Cochran,
and it will begin life under the
most favorabls and promising aus
pices.
Barrow was to have come from
sections of Gwinnett, Walton and
Jackson, and it had one of the
finest lobbies ever assembled in
Atlanta to plead a cause, But
politics—or something—got in the
way of Barrow, and it has been
indefinitely postponed.
Shock Cures Paralysis;
500 Volts is Remedy
Shamokin, Pa,, July 23.
Henry Rogers one year ago suffer
ed a stroke of paralysis and while
the left side was completely para
lyzed, it did not interfere with
duties as fan engineer at the En
terprise colliery. While examin
ing a motor today he came in cou
tact with an exposed wire and 500
volts of electrical current coursed
through his system rendering him
senseless.
Shortly after baving been re
moved to his home Rogers discov
cred that he bad regained com
plete use of the paralyzed left
side. Doctors state that the elec
trical shock relieved a conditiou
which had congested certain nerves
and caused paralysis.
Coughs Up Bullett
Lodged in Throat
For Three Years
Dalton, Ga., July 23.—While
in bathing in Bear creek, a few
miles south of here, Jack Smith, a
boy, coughed up a bullet which
h%%.,lodged in his throat for
more ¢uan three years.
Smith, with some young com
panions, were playing ‘‘wild west”
on Fort Hill about thre= years ago
and he was accidentally shot by
one of the boys with a 32-caliber
pistol. The bullet. entered his
mouth and for days his life was
despaired of. Physicians here and
in Chattanooga probed for the ba'l
but it could not be located.
While the boy, with some com
panions, was in swimming, Smith
felt a strangling sensation, being
forced to cough. The cough
brought the bullett out his mouth.
