Brunswick, Sept. 25.—T0 have
twenty-one freight cars pass over
him and ascape with only a few
scratches was the thrilling experi
ence passed through by J. P. Mec-
Kak, employed by the Atlantic
Coast Line railroad, last mght.
McKay attempted to crawl under
a Coast Line train about to depart
at the time and before he could
gain the other side of the track
the train ssarted movirg, He had
presence of mind to lie down in
the middle of the track and in that
position the twenty-one cars pass
ed over him, The few injuries he
recetved were made by brake
beamns and connecting rods strik
ing him on the body and hands,‘
His escape is considered miracu
lous, The place where he attempt
ed to cross has a sink between the
rails and to this he attributes be
ing alive to tell the tale. g
Fights Hookworm
Douglas, Ga,, Sept. 25.—Dr, T.
F. Abercrombile, a hookworm
specialist working under the super
vision of the State Board of Herlth
‘has been in Coffee county for four
‘weeks exarmining and treating
hookworm patient free of charge
and is doing a wonderful work.
During the four weeks Dr, Aber
crombie has examined 1,200 people
men, women and children, and out
of that number he has treated
something over 800. Dr. Aber
cromble will be in Coffee county
for two moire weeks, and expects
to examine and treat during that
time a similar number of people.
The State Board of Health is do
ing tltis work free of charge, ex
cept that the counties are called
upon to contribute sufficient sums
to pay for the advertising so as to
get the specialist before the peo
ple.

'lakes-to-the-gulf deep waters
convention, which began a three
days’ session in the city today.
Mr. Kavanaugh advecated the
transfer of machinery and engi~
neers from the Isthmus of Pan
ama when the canal is completed*
to the Mississippi to carry out the
deep waterways project from the
lakes to the gulf and also federal
controllof state levees to be cor
