PREMIUMS AWARDED IN
THE PANTRY DEPART
MENT. ;
As Superintendent of the Pan
try Deparment,;Mrs. B. F. Knapp
had’one of the prettiest displays
in the entire Exhibit Hall, for
what attracts more tttention than
beautiful canned fruits and veg
etables, cakes, pies and candies.
This section abounds in fruits
and vegetables of every known
variety, and the good housewives
know how to put them up for
winter use, too.
Mrs. Knapp was assisted in this
department by Mrs. Thurmend,
and candidly it required practi
cally all their time to keep the
visitors from sneaking a piece
of candy, cake or some other
delicacy that was put there, ap--
parently, to attempt them.
The Pantry Department was
unusually good and the premiums
awarded were as follows: \
Mrs. Frank Hitch recevied first
prize on her assortment of can
ned vegetables. |
Mrs. Robert McCall (from near
Coffee county line) received first
prize on an assortment of sixty
five different quarts ef fruit;
second prize on pickles, and third
prize on jellies.
Mrs. A. H. Thurmond received
first prize on preserves; second,
prize on jellies; third prize on
pickles; second prize on candy,
and second prize em two cakes,
one a dark furit cake and the
other a Lady Baltimore cake.
Mrs. M. E. Hutchinson was
awarded second prize on butter. I
Mrs. R. A. Majors received,
second on bread; secend prize on
rolls; secend prize on carmel cake, l
and second prize on cookies.
Mrs. J. M. Ernst was awarded
first prize on jellies; first pri
butter; second prize on prese

pies, and third prize on the gen
eral collection.
