LaGrange, Oct. 26,1850.
We, the sub-cribers, patrons of the LaGrange Col
legiate Seminary for Young Ladies, under the charge
of Milton E. Bacon, beg leave to make, to the public,
some expression of our opinion, in regard to the merits
of this important Institution. We feel no hesitation in
saying that we regard it as one of the best Female
Seminaries in our country, and worthy ol the confidence
and liberal patronage of an intelligent public. We re
gard the Principal as eminently qualified for his respon
sible position, and he seems to have spared no pains in
procuring the services of able Assistants in the various
departments of the Institution. It gives us much plea
sure to be able in this public manner, to express our
high gratification at the improvement which ourdaugh
ter • have made whilst connected with the Seminary,
ami having witnessed in them the excellent fruits ot
the moral and intellectual training through which they
have been conducted, we can witii greater confidence
commend the Institution to the favorable notice of our
particular friends, and to all others who may have
daughters to educate. The examination of the various
classes, now in progress,so far as we have been able to
give it our attention, lias been ol a highly satisfactory,
character, being conducted w ith great tairness and im
partiality, and evincing at once the ability and faithful
ness of the teachers, and the diligence of the pupils.
The performances of the Young Indies in Vocal
and Instrumental Music were truly admirable, and af
forded abundant evidence that Professor Chase, the
Principal in this Department,is eminently qualified for
the position which he occupies. We are pleased to
learn that Mr. Bacon’s Seminary has a growing reputa
tion, and a constantly increasing patronage. During
the present year he has had a larger number of pupils
than at any former period. We trust that future years
will mark the same advancement in the interest ot the
LaGrange Collegiate Seminary, and that its distin
guished Principal will never fail to receive from a dis
cerning and generous public that encouragement and
support which are due to bis great effiirtsarid uncom
mon sacrifices in the cause of Female Education.

LuGRANGT COLLEGIATE SEMINARY
FOR YOUNG LADIES.
The undersigned beg leave to make a brief express
ion of their views, in relation tothe above named Sem
inary, under the charge of Mr. Milton E- Bacon. It
has been in successful operation for eight years, and
during that time, has been rapidly advancing in useful
ness, efficiency and public favor. The principal is a
gentleman of high attainments, great moral worth,
and of much dignity of character, and lias associated
with him in the various departments of the In
stitution, individuals of ability and experience. It
is rare to find such an array of talent and excel
lence in the instructors connected with a Literary In
stitution. The course of study prescribed, is judicious
and extensive, and the instruction given, decidedly
thorough and efficient. Much attention is paid to tlie
moral culture of die Pupils, as well as to their intellec
tual training and general deportment. Good disci
pline is maintained, incentives to lauhab’e emulation
judiciously applied, and uncommon exertions made to
meet in all respects, the reasonable expectations ol pa
rents who ntay see fit to commit their daughters to the
fostering care of the Instuiuion. We are acquainted
with no female Insf'tution in the State, that has higher
claims to public patronage and confidence, and in our
opinion, it will compare favorably with the best Female
Seminary in our country at large.
