There were n > deftly turned periods, no

crowd. On the contrary, oar mother

solely, to re sene the sinner from his im
pending destruction.
We furnish merely an ontline of tho
Bishop’s argument.
After singing tho selected hymn “Has
ten, ainn'-r, to 1>” wise,” the text was
taken from Isaiah 1-t chapter and 18th
Terse: "Come notv, an l Ictus reason to-
gother, saitli tho Lord : though your sins

inow; though they be red like crimson

| The speaker said ui! l■..t.. 1 y
sends His own incarnate son to ransom s
fallen world, and rescue the loot rdeiades
of the universe from ruin and chaos.
The remedy too is reasonable and a just
requirement. Fatih alone is demanded
and it should not be withheld, accompa
nied by repentance anl the for.-ak-
| ing of tin. This belief in the Son
of God is indispensable, and justly
so. Heaven and hell will testify to the
divinity and excellence of the great I Am,
and His salvation. And this salvation is
the world's last hope. It presents the
only way of escape from moral death and
the endless torments of a hereafter.
Come, then, and let us reason together.
Sin eight and must lie repented of and
abandoned forever. Who can measure
the extent of its iniqnity ? Seek, then,
with all diligence, for that remedy which
ha* been provided witbont money and
without price, through thcpreciou- blood
of the Redeemer.
The Bishop closed with an earnest ap
peal to his .ministerial brethren to con
tinue to do their whole duty as watch
men on the walls of Zion. Then followed
the interesting ceremony of the ordina-
nation of thirteen deacons, whose names
have already been published.

Second—A pure and faithful ministry
which doe* n*»L ncruple to expose and re
buke thov pvi!*,*i* tho ^reatufit blessing
ever vouchsafed to man. Tho conrerso
of tho proposition, also, was equally true,
and a corrupt ministry, tho greatest ca
lamity that could befall him.
Isaiah lived in portentous times. Is
rael xra* divided, wit.li Juriuii and Benja
min on om- i'le, and the ten tribes on
the other. As a does, the rulers and
prophets w. rc corrupt and depraved. A
few only had remained loyal to their lord
and ma t”i’, and resisted this tide of in-
iquity.
But tho Divino displ casuro hiul boon
visited upon tho people, anil they had
teen *• nt into captivity, and grievously
afflicted. This sad condition of their
former brethren had alarmed Judali and
Uenjamin, and they had raised up Isaiah
to save tho people. Blit his rulers, too,
like Aluib, were disoluto rjul vicious,
mid he could do but little. Still ho sounds
the alarm, like a trumpet call at midnight
ummoning to arms a slumbering people.
He tolls tho populace their groves and
high places, and oblations and sacrifices
wero of no avail, because they were not
oVerr. God looks at tho heart, and
ceremonial observances are vain in His
eyes. Away, then, witli all hypocrisy
mid hollow pretensions. Ceaue todoovil,
leam to do well. You must renounce
ynur sins and accept God heartily and
devoutly. Come, then, and hearken to
your prophet, “let ns reason together.”
Man is tho only reasoning creaturo on
earth. Ho only can generalize, and by
analysis also understand tho nature of
good and ovil—reason is liis prerogative,
and separates him from tlio beasts of the
field. Ho was created witli a natural soul
and in tho iningo of his maker. And his
responsibility is founded upon this intel-
ligenoo/aml not based upon instinct or
habit. God gives him light from on High
and imparts to him his duty, and destiny,
and then clothes him with power to work
out his own salvation by tho aid of theso
teachings. Como then and let us reason
togetlior. Reason about wliat? Con
cerning sin and its remedy—“though your
sins he as scarlet, they shall bo like snow.”
Lot us reason as to tho fitness and pro
priety of serving God. Overt sin may,
and does grow out of our morally do-
pmvod natures; but tho atonement of
onr Master gives us justification through
faith in him. Tho prophet speaks of na
tional and personal sins. Sin3 deliberate
and aggravated. All sin says ono is a
mistake—and so it is—a most fatal error
and violation of the known will of God.
It is tho act of a froo agent nnd intelli
gent being, and a most unnatural offence.
Harmony with God is our normal condi
tion. God never made a sinner or the
father of liars. Ho could not. A good
tree cannot bring forth ovil fruit. It is
blasphemous to affirm that God was tho
author of sin. It is the voluntary act of
our own debased natures. God leaves us
froo in the premises, no docs not will
evil. Sinners then are in rsi abnormal
state, and not in tho condition designed
for them by their kind Creator. Tlio
moral consequences of sin through our
first parents descend from a federative
head upon posterity. The sinner is a
trait,.r to his God. His noble gifts and af
fections wore created for Goil's glory. And
when they are alienated and turned
against the majesty on high, liis altitude
is unnatural and rebellious.
The sinner is also ungrateful to God
for his unspeakable mercies, and evinees
great iinwortliinoss and depravity by his
unmeaning and fatal oppoiition to the
Divine will. The iugrnte is justly re
garded among moil as tho most odious of
his nice. And what a retr.ru docs tho
sinner render to tlio author of his being,
for all liis transcendent goe dnoss.
He who degrades his family escutcheon
l>y deeds of wickedness and dishonor, is
justly loathed and avoided. But sin
makei us grateful to the best of fathers,
and robs our nature of nil that is lovely
aud commendable. Tt vitiates tho iuor.il
taste*, perverts the appetite.', and engen
der* ruinous and destructive habits.
Habits which gi-ow sf rongerund stronger,
until they destroy tho voice of conscience,
and poison the fountains of all goodness
and purity. Such is sin. The sinner not.
only harms himself, hut is the cause of
incalculable injury to others. Ho is a
post-house — a deadly upas tree — the
agent of Satan and the fol. destroyer of
his family and society. Sin i* a crime of
the darkest line. Its black trail may be
traced through households; communities
and nations. How many jmivos has it
dug for its victims, llow many thorns
have boon planted by it in the human
heart. The whole earth is a monument
of its blasting and damning consequen
ces, You see tho baleful eifects of war
around yon in desolate stacks of chim
neys, without houses to them, and the
poverty and mourning', which aro its
legacy. Hut this is a faint resemblance
only to the woe, which sin dispenses with
it* hellish breath. The Moody sweat in
the garden of Gethsemane, and tito agony
and crucifixion of our dying Lord and
^Uviour on Calvary, wore tho result of
thi* violation of God's law. Oh, who can
conceive of tho extent of tho ruin and
misery caused by sin ? Come, “then, and
let us reason together” about it. You
do not read God’s law and my to observe
and keep its precepts. You. are slighting
His calls to-day. This is moral madness,
and if summoned away at this moment
you would awake from your night-mare
dream in horror and despair.
A stranger from another realm would
suppose bom your ease and assured bear
ing, that all was well with you. Indeed,
that tlio whole community were pious.
And when undeceived by :he appalling
blasphemy, drunkenness, and other forms
of wickedness in your dwellings and upon
your streets, he would be overwhelmed
with surprise and consternation. He
could not realize that this people professed
to believe in the existence if a God. But
for thi* very reason their c rimes are of a
darker and more malignant hue, and their
damnation more certain and awful.
Sin is a great injury ar.d crying evil
which God interdicts and condemns. Is
there no remedy for it ? Y es, blessed be
God there is, and it is found in the gospel
Come let us reason together, saith the
I*)xd! Though your sins be as scarlet
they shall be as white as snow ; though
they bo like crimson they shall be as
wool
Great and enormous as *J*e the oonse-
quencos of sin. there is an all-sufficient

Editors Telegraph aiul Messenger: A
working quorum of the Allopathic Medi
cal Board of the State of Georgia is now
in session in this city, anil has been ac
tively at work here for several weeks
post. This i*oard is composed of about
twenty of the leading physicians of the
State, among whom wo mny mention the
following: W. J. Johnson, of Atlanta;
Dr. Bullock, of Savannah; L. D. Ford, of
Augusta; C. If. Hall and J. Mercer
Green, of Macon; R. B. Nisl*et, of Eaton-
ton; D. S. Brandon, of Tliomnsvillo;
and Dr. Stanford, of Columbus, together
with Drs. S. G. White, W. H. Hall, anil
other medical gentlemen of this city.
Dr. S. G. Whito is president of the board,
and Dr. W. H. Hall is vico president.
Dr. G. D. Case is dean.
Tlio object of tho present meeting (a
quorum of which is constantly ill attend
ance.) is the examination of candidates
for the privileges of practicing medicine
and surgery in this State, and also of pur
suing the vocations of pharmaceutist,
apothecary and druggist. Where theso
candidates or applicants aro found quali
fied, tho proper licenses aro issued to
them. It may not ho generally known,
but it is true that, (with a few particular
exceptions,) all surgeons, physicians,
pharmaceutists, apothecaries and drug,
gists—in fact, all persons assuming to
prnctico any of the duties of theso voca
tions—must have proper license from this
board, or otherwise bo subjected to severe
penalties. Without such license tlio ac
counts of these professional gentlemen
ore not. collectable by law; anil violators
of tlio law ore further punished by a fine
of $500 for tho first offence, and by im
prisonment for tho second: “Ono half of
the fine to inure to the informer, the
other to tlio educational fund of the
county.” Seo Irwin’s Revised Codo of
Georgia, of 1SGS, section 1,410 to 1,431
inclusive. Theso legal requirements have
long been in forco in Georgia; but they
have been veiy negligently enforced. To
protect tho lives of tho citizens of Georgia
against malpractice, this able and intelli
gent board ore impelled to act moro vigor
ously in tho future. Tho only exceptions
to theso requirements aro set forth in
section 1,428 of tlio code. Tho law also
authorizes the appointment of another
board to examine applicants in a similar
manner who have adopted the “Reformed
Practice of Medicine.” Certain graduates
at regular and recognized medical schools
of allopathy aro entitled to license by
law, on presentation of diplomas without
examination.
Tho sitting of this board has attracted
hither many medical gentlemen from
every section of tho State during the past
few weeks, aud nearly one hundred li
censes have been issued. These appli
cants have been, in the main, a good-
looking, intelligent set of gentlemen;
and our city has begun to assume quite
u "professional” air. On yesterday we
overheard two lads, on the street engaged
in a spirited dispute respecting the differ-
onoo between a scalpel and a bistoury;
and so for as irs know, both disputants
wero right! Wo understand life insurance

But to resume the serious: Wo must
not pass from this subject without special
mention of Mr. J. M. Clark the Pharma
cist of this Examining Board. An abler
pharmacist, or a more kind and modest
gentleman, is not to bo found in the
State. And tlio other members of tlio
Board, wlio aro residents of this city and
weU known to the writer hereof, are
among tho most learned, skillful, and
conscientious practitioners in tho United
States. All persons brought before this
Board may feci sure of being dealt with
in a spirit of kindness and yet of strict
impartiality also.
The need of skilled druggists has been
impressed on tho public mind more forci
bly of late than ever before, by several
notable blunders whereby human life lias
been sacrificed. The law, which has at
tracted the highest commendations from
abroad, should be, and we may add, icitl
be strictly enforced in tho future. Li
censes are issued by tho Board to. 1,
pharmacists; 2. apothecaries; and_ 3,
druggists, according to qualification.
And we must add that licenses to appli
cants of all sorts aro withheld where
there is palpable absence of qualification.
The object of tho Law in calling together
this board is to protect Georgians every
where against the ignorant blundering
and knavish charlatanism of incompetent
practitioners, of both sexes, whose mal
practices swell fearfully onr mortuary
statistics. If the citizens of the State
will demand that every physician and
druggist shall bo licenses!, or prosecuted
by tlio Grand Jury of his county for prac
ticing without license, they will do far
more towards “insuring tlieir lives” than
by patronizing all tlio life insurance
agents in America. We have deemed
the publication of these facts in your
widely circulated and able journal as a
matter of public interest to all classes of
your readers—to the people, mainly, who
buy drugs and employ physicians and
surgeons.
Milledgeville is still witnessing the
erection of new buildings, and trade is
brisk to-day. We feel thankful to you
for presenting the Capital question to
vour readers in the able and statesman
like way you did to-day. W. G. M.

ally, and has tlic most extensive works of tho kind, in Great Britain, which have
been in operation 24 years. The Langdale, therefore, lias a good pedigree and is no
experiment.
It contains a larger proportion of chemical elements suited for the promotion
of vegetable life, and especially of cotton, than any other fertilizer offered in the
South. It is the best and safest Cotton Manure in tho market.
The analysis given with the Manure when sold will ho guaranteed. There shall
be no mistake about the genuineness of the article, nortliegood faith of the vendors.
It is tho cheapest Manure offered, as it contains nothing but what is of use in
becoming plant-food, or by chemical aetion on tho soil, producing the same. The
tost of eiicapness is not tho price, hut the actual worth of tlio artielo purchased.
Low-priced Manure cannot contain efficient quantities of pure and valuable chemi
cals, which can alone give worth to a fertilizer, and bring satisfactory results. Tho
Langdalo is as low in price as is consistent with tlio use of tlio best ingredients, and
a fair commercial iwolit on its cost.
The employment of powerful machinery in mixing and pulverizing tlio ingre
dients prepares every particle for service, and prevents trouble in using. The Lang
dale is unequalled in this respect, and impresses every one wlio sees it as a perfectly
manipulated Manure.
In its composition and preparation it is the result of careful scientific researeli
and experiment, confirmed l>y practical application for a quarter of a century. It
will ho maintained, at its present high standard, and is thus wliat planters have
long wanted - a thoroughly reliable and safe Manure.
