A Macau House Abroad.
The Columbus Enquirer, of a recent
date, makes tho subjoined notico of
Messrs. R033 & Coleman, of this city.
Whatever is said of this firm in Colum

house is one of tho largest in the South.
It carries an'immense stock of good*,
buys strictly for cosh, and consequently
at tho very lowest prices. They had a
mammoth stock in store a short while
ago; hut so greatly line it been reduced
that they havo been forced to enter the
market again, and by tho first of Jan

very largo stock, bought for cash when
tho market wa3 most depressed by tho

fine sohoolhoiises, such as you described
in your comments, is needlessly alarmed,
i Wo have gotten over tlie old notion that
anything that has tho name of a house is
good enough for school purposes. It is
now believed that there ia oa much rea
son for building schoolbouses with ex
clusive reference io the purposes for
which they nre intended as there is for
so constructing dwelling-houses.
But it is not in reply to this part of tho
communication that this article is written.
Tho objoet is to correct the eironous im
pression that the rolhill lot was pur
chased with a view to erecting thereon,
at this time, a school-house corresponding
. to tho one for which tho foundation is
being prepared in South Macon. The
object of the purchase was to secure a
central location tor our high school; and
by purchasing this property not only was
one of the best location* in the eity for
the purpose secured, but the buildings on
the lot can be so utilized as to make it
unnecessary for the city to erect a build
ing there for several years. We will need
another grammar school building in the
northern part of the city corresponding
to tho one about to be erected in the
southorn section, but City Council has
the assurance of Hon. Jos. T. Xis bet, who
is a member of the Bibb County Board

Horse and Mule Recaptured. !
Our readers will remember that within :
the pust fortnight we have mentioned I
tho fact that Mr. Faulk, of Twiggs coun
ty, ha«l had a horse and a mule stolen
from his premises. Both animals have :
been recovered by their owner. The
horse was captured iu Monroe county, in
the possession of the thief, a copper-
colored boy about IS years of age, stout
built and pigeon-toed. The l*oy escaped
from bis captor. Dr. Baskin, nnd w:i_:
shot in the head and leg while doing so.
When last seen ho was making his way
toward Maeon. and is supposed to be now
lurking somewhere about the city.
Tlie mule was captured in Washington
county, as wa? mentioned a day or two
ago. together with tho thief, who is in
jail.
Both these capture* were made through
advertisements which have appeared in
