A young lady, twenty five years of
age. of elegant accomplishments and
fascinating qualities of many kinds, ar
rived in this city (says the St. Louis Re
publican) a few weeks ago, from Chilli
cothe, Ohio on a visit She had for
! some time been in the lmbit of takrng
small quantities of arsenic, for the pm -
I pose of beautifying her complexion,and

fell sick, and day lefoio yesterday she
died.
New York Harbok Filling Up.—
Such is the alarming announcement of
the New York N<v:s. That paper states

setting forth, on the authority of the

near Diamond Reef had shoaled so rap- j
idly that two large vessels could hardly
pass each other in the channel. The
tilling out of a shoal from Mitchell to
Governor’s Island would intercept the
direct navigation between the Hudson
and .first rivers.
The alleged cause of this injurious es-,
fc t is said to be the washing out of the
earth at tho Battery enlargement. The
