INDIAN WAR IN LOUISIANA:
Vincennes , (1, T.J April 9.
Governor Harrison received on
Monday last a special express from
Governor Lewis, by wuich he is
informed that an associatson hat
been entered into by a baud of the
Winnebagoes, and Puans, now liv
ing on the Illinois river, with others
of the nation, residing in Louisia
na, and by the lowas, and some
other of the Mississippi tribes, fur
the purpose of attacking fort Belle
View (a fort lately erected by ihe
United States on the Mississippi,
in the neighborhood of the Le
Moin) and waging war on the
frontiers of Illinois and Louisiana,
A party of the above association
had made their appearance in the
settlement of Gosticn, in the coun
ty of St. Clair, a lew days before
the express sent out, ail armed
with new muskets, and had taken
off in their retreat fifteen horses.
T hey were pursuad by captain
Whitesides with twenty m e u, and
whilst governor Lewis was writing
his dispatch intormatiou was re
ceived that Whitesides and hi*
party hae been cutoti—the report,
however, was not credited by the
Governor.
It gives us pleasure to say that
we are authorised by Governor
Harrison, explicitly to state, that
he has every reason to believe ihe
tribes of the Wabash continue firm
and unshaken in their attachment
to the Utmed States.
