“I went yesterday with*
Governor Strong of Malfa
chuletts, to witneis Whit
ney’s Gun Fadlory near this
place. It is situated on East
river, at the foot of a moun
tain, and all its machinery
is, in the first instance, mov
ed by two large wheels—
the barrels are welded in a (
furnace ; ground by grind j
stones, and bored with an
auger, with as much facility
as you would bore a pine
board. Bayonets are turned
as the turner would the
round of a chair ; and then
ground into their pioper
lhape with chilfcls. Screws
and lochs are made with
great ease, and (what is a
great improvement) focon
ftru&ed as to fit any gun
whatever. There is an axe
which being moved by a
wheel will cut the larged
piece of iron. Ramrods are
turned as you would turn a
rule. It is curious to fee the
whole machine set in ope
ration by one wheel, and al
tho’ one hand carries them
all, yet it is*fo happily con
trived that one workman
may ltop his part of the ma
chine without any interrup
tion to the red. Six guns
are made in one day. This
is, I think, the mod impor
tant edablidimcnt of which
our country can boad. Mr.

- and oblige and old
Elector of Columbia Coun
ty-
Dotflor Wm. W. Bibb,
Col. Geo. M. Troup,
Copt. Howell Cobb, Sc
Bolling Hall, Esq.
This ticket, I recommend
only to those who wifli to
support republicanism in the
true sense of the word
those who arc fatisfied with
the name only, may easily
find a ticket.
There appears to be no
objection to Dodtor Bibb—
he is firft on every ticket.
Col. Troup is next on
doquet—We have seen some
few objections to him ; but
Inch poor feeble attempts
we deem unworthy of no
tice—they would not serve
for more than a kick in the
dying groans of federalifin:
Capt. Cobb is alio objec
ted to by some, hut they
proceed entirely from an
invious source, and not from
virtue or patriotism—he is
undeniably ofaftrong mind,
ftriit integrity 5c pure pim
ciples—“ by his deeds ye
may know him’—he is wor
thy the fulrrages of a free
people.
Bolling Hall is the Fourth
candidate whom I have re
commended, and who lhall
have my cordial lupport. —
There have been, indeed,
many objections to him, but
who are they from ? 1 will
freely give my opinion
they are from the remnants
of federalifis those who
are or have been interfiled
in the Yazoo fraud, and that
portion of the community
who wish to place it in the
power of a feyv to declare
any or all the laws palled by
the legiilature ur.conflituti
onal, and thereby place the
foie and entire government
in the power ot the Judici
ary, or m the hands ot a few
individuals ! What is more
delpotic than this ? Where
are the liberties of the peo
ple, if a judge has the pow
er to declare any law uncon
llbutional ? \Vb * ,r »
hands of that man who is
inverted with Inch power.
Is ts«s repoblicanilm ? Is it
equality ? cr is there the
leall l'park of jullice or vir
turc in it ? No—ln fliort,
your lives, liberty and pro
perty are at once placed in
the hands of one man ! ! !
O, Georgians to your ports ;
Route from your tor per, 6c
let jullice and virtue prevail
—look to vour rights and
support them, or yon will
be accountable to the latest
porterity for your criminal
neglect.
Bolling Hall is opposed
to this usurpation of power,
for which he has been load
ed wiih contumely and in
sult; but it is not from the
honetl farmer, the mechanic
or the merchant—no, it is
only from thole monopoli
zers of power who (hall not

It was not believed in

There are not yet any of
ficial advices from Lord
Wellington ; and though a
belief continues of a battle
having been fought, no cer

received to that effect.
The reinforcements going
out to lord Wellington, wc

in the event of the British
army being obliged to eva

return to England, but be
