A man in Hancock, by the
name of Jofeph Bridges, was,
at the iaft Superior Court, held
for that County, convidled of,
and condemned to be executed
for murder; but on account of
applications in his favour, which
you will find by the packet No.
7, I was induced to re 1 pice the
execution of his fentence, until
the 20th of the next month, in
order that he might have an
opportunity of applying to the
Legiflature for pardon, that be
ing the department of Govern
ment, which alone could grant

commodious two florv houfe,

clquire, the property of Mig
John Barron, was di(covered to
have taken fire. The ahfm
was unmed areiy given, and the
neighbors together with the
members of the 1 emflature,
which had juft commenced the
felTi- n, colleded, and made ufe
of every exertion to extinguilh
the flames without effed. In
the courfc of half an hour the
whole building was confumed.
The fire is fuppofed to have
communicated to the weather
boarding through a fmall crack

ftor). The owner Mr. Barron
has fuftained a lofs at lea ft
fifteen hundred dbliars, a fum
that will be felt materially by a
man in his circumftanccs.—A
fubicription is opened at Major
Hammond’s fur the purpofc of
purchafingmateriaks for rebuild
ing the houfe. It is to be ex
peded that every citizen of the
town will contribute what is
convenient—and hope the libe
rality of the members of the
Leglnature will be eminently
confjpicuous.
The pilot of the Dyett, ar
rived at New-York, from New-
Orleans, informs, that the port
of Ncw-Orleans was open to
American vefiels, and that fome
French troops had arrived there.
There is no doubt but the
Tories were preparing their old,
nifty, royal mufkets, for an ex
pedition to Louifiana. Their
object, it fee ms, was ro march
in the rea , and pkice the Re
publicans between two fires.
