We knew a maiden fair and love- <

j rivaled the first blush of morning
in their delicate softness; her merry
laugh was like the peal of wedding
bells, her voice was as sweet as j

As the summers glided by, her heart i
seemed to grow more joyous, her
i beauty became more riefi and mng
jnificenL We experienced delight
as we saw time giving increased el

became confirmation strong as proof;
of holy writ. Whispers floated on
the air until they reached the ear of
the slandered one. Then the roses
laded fypm her cheeks, her., once
merry laugh became a hollow mourn,
aid when death came, as come it
soon did, it was welcomed as a kind
deliver.
How many gentle ones have thus
been done to death by slanderoqs
Lfougues, the records Q.f Eternity
j alone can tell. But beyond all
question, they are no small multi

ways been, and will always bp.—
