Texas.—It is said that emigrants from the
Western and Southern States are pouring in
to Texas in large numbers, many of whom
at* wealthy planters, farmers and stock rais
ers. It is estimated that within the past six
months Some eighty thousand persons have
entered the State by way of Galveston and
the Red River. A New Orleans leuer says:
Good sugar lands, well located and perlect
titles, are rating from $5 to $10, and cotton
lands Iron) $3 to $5 per acre. The rapidly
augmenting value of these lands since the
Compromise', os was generally anticipated,
has caused then: to become a prominent ob
ject of speculation in.the market—while the
receding tide of California emigration is pass
ing into Texas on- the “back track,” and se
curing tnuch Of what is every where acknowl
edged to be the best pluhting and agricultural
4 strict in the South.
