KRPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA. Baltimore, July 30 — By (ho trrivkl laal night of the aclir. Dandy, the rditori hive received the following letter, dated “ La lluira,Jutji II).— fhed the plea- mire of addressing y.u a few dnya ago, vince when nothing of importance haa taken place. The country here ia per- f ctly tranquil, without the probability of its being disturbed. Porto Cabello etill holds out, und I apprehend it nut will he pixen upl'orjjomo time, as they had lately received a reinforcement and a supply of provisions. Having a 50 gun frigate and »22gun brig, they go to sea ea often ns they please. The Republican squadron is o(V there, bring composed entirely of small Teasels they can do nothing 'with the frigate and brig. It is much to be regret ted that Com. Danicle bad nut the com mand, us all the captains agree in laying, that had he been there, the enemy would have lost their vessels. Com. Daniels is mgeh esteemed here by the govcrndient and by the people, and he possesses in an eminent degree the confidence of the of ficers aud men of tho navy. The land forces have approached bo near to Puerto Ouvello as heave their ihot and bombs into the town. The Spanish commander lately sent out of the place all the women children and useless men.”—American. BRAZIL. Baltimore, July 30.—in a part of our impression yesterday, the name of the Prince Regent of the Brazils was printed Joseph, instead of John. We regret to say, that wo have not yet been able to obtain a translation of the papers received from Rio-Janeiro—we learn from a gen tleman who haa perused them, that an As- tembly composed of Deputies elected by the people in the several provinces or divisions ol the Brazils having met. agreed to an address which they present >d to the Prince Regent; in this address they set forth in detail the injuries and grievances which the people ot Brazils have expe rienced from their dependence on Portu gal, and in consequence of the exercise of foreign Authority over them ; that these two countries being situated so distant from each other,'with such a vast ocean between them, it is not just that the pen pie of either should exercise any control over, or be subject to the direction of the people of the other—they, therefore, in the unme of the people whom they repre sent, request that a new Cortes may be elected Air the express purpose of declar ing the people of the Brazils an Indepen dent JVution. The Prince Pcgefit had returned an answer approving oftheobject of the ad dress, ami promising a compliance will) the request contained in it. The new Cortes had accordingly been elected, aud were to meet on the day on which the Uryas sail* d.—Patriot. ■ To the F.ililort of the A'utional Intelligencer. If the press has its liberties, individuals aggrieved by it have atsu the means of obtaining redress secur ed to them. When the official trial of Lieut.
