TO CAVITALIST8.
A VERY superior Steam 8aw Mill has been
recently erected in the vicinity of tne
CITY OY DAUVEN,
as the most eligible situation for • business ol
the kind on the Atlantic shori’i of the United
Stotts. Possessing all the advantages of an in
exhaustible supply of the finest yellow pitch
Pine and Cypress Timber, built on a fine bluff,
with thirteen feet water close to it, and a natural
cove for the reception of lugs.
The present owners not having it In tlieii
power to bestow that attention to it which a
concern of such magnitude requires, are desir
ous of tclllnjr the whole, or a part of their inter
est in it, and now offer it for talc st a very low
valuation, and much less than such a ttructure
con 11 be completed for.
There has just been added to it a very supe
rior Dice Pounding Machine, capable of dis
charging at least 50 tierces of clean rice per
day; and a Corn-Mill, all set in motion by thc
sumc engine.
The Saw-Mil! is upon a new principle, bi
the late renowned Civil Engineer, Mr. REN
NIE of London* who sent out one of his beat
workmen to Superintend it* erection. It ean
now cut with 48 saws, and may be made to drive
twice that number.
The Hieam Engine is perhaps the best tin
the United FtalcB, made by Messrs. HOLTON
U WATT, of Soho, near fhimingham; ami
erected under the inspection of their best fore
man, sent out expressly for that purpose.
A wonderful expence is saved in tuel, as tin
saw-dustjfrom the pitch-pino is lound to unswei
instead of fire-wood, and is carried to the
mouth of the furnace from the pit by ctevatuiK
now in use.
The Rice Machine is also on a new principh
and found by experience to answer belter than
any yet in use. The quickness nnd regularity
of the movement, producing it of asuperioi
brightness without breaking the grain.
The mill is situated on a fine Creek, called
Cat-Head, on a branch of the Altumaha River,
and only about half a mile from Darien.
Sea Vessels, whose di aught of water enables
them to go to the whaif at Darien, can load at
the Mill, only a short distance off*, with great
facility; as an enclined plane from the mill, will
enable them tojeceive the lumber into Ihcir
bow ports, almost without expence: and the
mill, as now in operation, can (jirnifih 40 M. feci
ol plank per day, which may be increased i!
found necessary; the power being amply suffi*
cient.
The lumber sent from this establishment since
it went into operation Iia3 .becn allowed to be
superior in quality and regularity in sawing.
The commissioners of the Navy of the Uni
ted States have approved of the sU| planks,
furnished from it, and it is highly prVkble will
give it a preference in future contracts.
It has also been seen and justly admired in
New-York and Philadelphia.
The prospect of a renewed intercourse with
the British Weal India Islands, renders this
establishment a desirable mode of investment-*
offers, in that case, having been nr.ade from
JAMAICA ALONE, for about half of alllhe pro
duce of the saw-mill.
The presimt owners have no objection to con
tinue interested in it to a certain extent, but
their other avocations preclude their personal
attention to it.
