A letter from Penaaoola dated on the 1 Sth
mat. states, that notTnore than fifty Americans
remained in the place, all havingflown to escape
the ravages of yellow fever—the mortality has
been great among the Americans, and many
Spaniards have ehered the seme fate t none re
main who can remove, and none who have been
taken, it it said have recovered.
Letters from N. Orleans received in Charles
ton, state that the yellow fever had appeared in
that city the early part of September. Letiers
from Philadelphia alto mention severs! cases of
fever of a doubtful character.
Four eases of yellow fever and three deaths
were reported to the New-York Board of Health
on the 18th inst.
At New-Yoik, on the 19(h ult. seven esses
were reported. Private letters rept event the
desertion of the city as immense—the Board of
Health lisve found the attempt to fence up ihr
Edmund Law, Baq. formerly iff Washington,
has been appointed by the Governor and Coun
cil of Florida, territorial Judge fbr the Eastern
division of the territory.

Charleston waa last night visited by a

The c^ps of Cotton and Corn in the state' of
North Carolina, are stated to be uncommonly
fine—and a part of the Cotton has already been
got in,
Utjhvny Robbery,—A woman of bad charac
ter in Hartford, (Conn) not long since, In a
walk with a Mr. Hayden, in the neighborhood
of that place, enticed him into a bye path where
he was seised hy two men, supposed to be her
accomplices, and rubbed of about 60 dollars ,n
call and notes, and other valuable papers to a
much larger amount. The trio were convicted.
Three men, named Joshua Whittemore, Jar-
via Copeland and Gray, were arrested In Nuf-
folk on the 20th ult. and committed to jail, on a
charge of passing Counterfeit money. Tltrae
others were interested in the businesa, who
were not arrested. Three or four hundreu dol
lars in no'es ofthe Bank of Cape Pear, five's and
ten’s, budly executed, one $100 of the Batik if
South Carolina, and a few a ne'e of tiie state
Bank of North Carolina, were found upon them.
There waa a slight frost in the vicinity of Bal
timore, m the merningt of the 17th and 18tb
inst.
A severe hail storm was experienced at
Hackensack, (N. J.) on the evening of the Mth
ult. The hail upon an average was aa largess
a black walnut, and it is calculated that about
10,Otto panes of glass were broken ia the neigh-

about four milas, in which compass it destroyed
the grain, kb.

The wharves have escaped with but
little comparative injury—the damage
they have sustained, having been princi.

the same pirates, who detained the vessel
and cargo—robbed the captain and crew,

stores, '^c. and, after treating them in Ihe
most cruel manner, put them on board the
French brig, (wjth'5 days provisions) in
which they arrived at Havana:—These
pirates also captured (wu Portuguese brigs
from Brazil to Havana, with jerked beef,
and, after plundering them ol all Ihe
articles (hey were-in want of, let them
go—they had arrived at Havana. The
same gang likewise captured two 'Eng
liah schooners from Nassau for Neuvitas,
with dry goods, the captain* of which ran
•ometl them for 83000 each, when they
were allowed to proceed. The force of
these pirates consists ol one schooner of
80 tool, 8 guns, and 30 men, and one
schooner of SO tons, I gun on a pivot, and
85 men—all Spaniards and Piirtngueee.

The ship Hunter, Turner, just arrived
