The ship Zodiac, recently purchased by
Com. Porter, at New-York, is intended as
a store ship for the West India expedition.
She iB armed at present with four long, 8“
and four 12 lb. gunnad ss, and under the
command of Capt. Kearhey. The Zodiac
was bought for 6,501) ddllars. The steam
boat Enterprise, purchased at the same
time is 130 tons burtheh, and cost 15,000
dollars. Among the oUlcers attached to
the expedition, in addition to those heftne
mentioned, are Lieutenants Tattnall and
Newell, of this city. ^ j

The following obituary notice appears in
•the London papers of the 23d and 25th
November.!
".Death.-*On the 27th ult. on board the
A&p M si, 0n his passage from Fhiladel-
pLia to ttiih country, the Hon William
LuWdks, Member of Congress from South
'Carolina.” (Mr. Lowndes, accompanied by
:his lady and daughter, sailed from New
•Castle, in a V&ry feeble state of health, on
the 21st of October, he must therefore h*i
expired a fevf day s after leav ng his v hstive
shores. The ship arrived at Deal in 23
.days passage.

tinues dull, and but few sales are effected
—we look fir* an improved demand ere
long. Our imports last week nre 3089 bugs,
and bales, all sorts, & sides for the same pe
riod are 3850 bales, principally American
Cottons, we quote Cotton 8. Island Georgia
12 a 224 per lb; Stained,7^1 a lid; Upland

Tuesday last, has been in a very languid

Our present rates for Colton, may be
stated at 22 to 24 ^ous for good uplands,
and 25 to 26 for extra good*; a"d 23 to 32
for Orleans and Tennessees. Potashes 54
to 55. New Rice would probably sell at a
bout 25f. entrepot. We nave an over sup
ply of Va. Tobacco; and more is daily ex
pected. More is already offered for gov't
sale, (which ia said to be postponed to the
10th of Dec.) than is wanted, mid a large
portion must de over.

A Paris Journal, the Pilot, announ

alluding to this statement, seems to
doubt its authenticity, as it expresses

Accounts from Bayonne state, that in
Consequence of the capture of 'Bala-
idler, Mina has been enabled m ostah
