THE VALDOSTA TIMES,
Whs
. Newport News, Va., July 1903.
Last summer while recovering from ill-
f 6 ** of fever, I had a seme attack of
inflammatory Rheumatism in the knees,
“om which I was unable to leave my
Jbom for several months. I was treated
Jr two doctors and also tried different
ndnds of 1 inaments and medicines which
deemed to relieve me from pain for
•while, but at the same time I was not
nny nearer getting well. One day while
*estding a paper I saw an advertisement
MS.8.8. for Rheumatism. I decided
to give it a trial, which I did at oace.
After I had taken three bottles I felt a
great deal better, and I still continued
to take it regularly until I was entirely
cured. I now feel better than for yean,
and I cheerfully recommend S. S. S. to
any one suffering from Rheumatism. ^

Some Bits of Counsel
Never anchor in the harbor of neg
ative conditions, if you wish to suc
ceed in life—or spend your time in
dodging rain drops called ill luck. We
will surely find the showers of ad
verse circumstances clearing as we
advance along the line of duty. The
malaria arising from grumbling com
plaints will be found very contagious.
Therefore, never indulge in a tramp
through these swamps, says the New
York Commercial.
A cheerful, willing desire to work
causes one to be surrounded with the
atmosphere of successful opportuni
ties, and once in that cloudless vicin
ity, one’s object is easily obtained.
Be universally polite. It is a great
winner of popularity. It may cost an
effort in a boorish nature, but it pays
to exert one’s self In the right direc
tion. One of the most pleasing recol
lections of European trips to the av
erage American is the uniform cour
tesy shown by every tradesman and
official, In any line of contact, to those
making purchases or inquiries. They
thank you whether you purchase their
commodities or not—thank you for
your call, and make you feel that it
l pleasure to serve you. It is
proved that they have won an im
mense business from our people, who
might have been repelled except for
their exceeding politeness. It has
been said that "Americans have no
time to be polite.’’ Then we must in
vent some telegraphic method of
communication with the higher power
and request the weavers of time to
spin the American web a few yards
longer, that we may have material on
which to embroider a few more Ag
es of universal courtesy

Genius Unappreciated.
I was standing In a downtown cate
this morning when a man entered who
was an intelligent-looking fellow,"but
from his appearance evidently ill
hard luck, says a writer in the Alba
ny (N. Y.) Journal. His trousers were
very shabby, his shirt and neckwear
were in very poor condition, and Uti
coat was also torn. He walked up to
the bar and said:
"The usual observer would Imagine
that I am a bum, but I assure yon.
my kind friends, that I am not. One
of the attributes of genius is the lack
of money. I am a genius and nlso
lack money. It is a peculiar thing
how some men earn a great deal of j
money and sdme cannot.
"If I were in your place and yon
were In mine," he continued, address-,
ing the bartender, "do you know what
I would do?"
"No, I do not," replied the bartend:

said the genius. * l.
The bartender laughed, but good c;t-

"No, what next?" asked the mixfr

Do Not Suppress a Cough,
When you have a cough, do not try
to suppress it, but remove the cause.
The cough is only a symptom of some
disease, and the disease is what you
should cure, then the cough will stop
of itself. The most common cause of

preparations containing chloroform,

Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy, on the
other hand, does not suppress the
cough, but relieves It by removing
from the throat and lungs the mucus
which obstructed t%e breathing and
allaying the irritation and tickling in
the throat. It also opens the secre
