court met at ten o’clock this morning
with Judge R. O, Mitchell presiding.
Tlie charge to the grand jury was
delivered and the court was organized
for business without delay. Mr. Howard
Harris was made foreman of the grand
jury, and Mr. W. D. Peeples, secretary.
The divorce docket was taken up and
several divorces were granted. The ses
sion will be a bnsy one, among the
features being the resentencing of J. G.
Rawlings and his sons, in whose cases
the supreme court refused a new trial.

which started here at midnight and
got under control at two o’clock this
morning daused a loss of eighty thous
and dollars Losses are largely cov
ered by Insurance. The fire was at
Third avenue and Eighteenth street
and destroyed or badly damaged bus
iness houses, including the telephone,
negro bank anu plumbing establish
ment.

Battenburg, during his stay in New
York, spent five hours in a dentists
chair, and paid the bill rendered for a
