GOVERNMENT MAY
The Outlook is Very Bright
Federal Appropriation.
tor
Contrary to Expectations, It Looks
Now as if an Appropriation Bill
Will be Passed—Many Other Build
ings are Going up in Valdos
ta at the Present Time.
(From Tuesday's Daily.)
A letter has been received here
from CotiKrossman Brantley stating
that, eontrory to expectations, there
Is some likelihood that the appro
print Ion bill will be passed at this
session of congress and If so, that
Valdosta will get an appropriation
for her Federal building of not less
that $126,000.
ThU would mean that the hnndslme
now building would be commence.!
during tlie present year on proper
ty which the government has al
ready bought here.
Work on Sash Factory.
Thn work Is progressing rapidly
on the Valdosta Sash and Door Fac
tory's building, which Is to be a much
larger structure than the one which
was consumed by tire. It will cover
more ground and will be two sto
ries high.
It Is understood that the pinning
mill will be completed within the
next forty or fifty .lays and will be
gin operation at on jo. Manager
Shaw Is In charge of the work nnd
It is being pushed along rapidly. I
Mr. E. Y. Fry's Improvements
It Is stated that Mr. E. Y. Fry
will add a story to his home on lllll
avenue and will spend about $5,000
Improvements. His residence Is
a new one and is already a very
pretty home, but Mr. Fry wants to
Increase Its size.
It has not boon heard yet when
the Georgia Southern will begin work
upon the freight depot, but very soon
It is said.
There Is fulte a good denlofactlv
|ty in the building lire here nnd the
outlook Is that it wli get more active.
THE SPRING CLEANING.
Should Extend to Door Yards and the
Surroundings of Your Place.
The Columbus Enquirer-Sun prints
a timely article on the necessity of
spring cleaning, which applies equal
ly well to other places, and The
Times takes the liberty of copying
the sentiments therein expressed*
The writer states that smiling spring
with the prottiest frock and Just the
dearest little hat, JmHae sweet for
anything, will soon bo with us, but
spring was already here while he Jot
ted down the lines. The flowers nre
already blooming nnd th<* trees that
decorate our streets nnd yards are
beginning to bud In an amazing way,
as you will see If you will notice a
bit carefully. Nature Is preparing
to make her domnln fresh and pleas
ing.
It Is nn excellent example which
the good citizens will follow. We can
help to put away the city’s rubber
boots and storm coat and the winter
garments that nre no longer needed,
nnd aid In furnishing too, with a pret*
ty hat nnd a now costume.
A very effective way to do this Is
to clean up In front your own domi
cile, and In the rear too. That will
accomplish good of Itself, and will
stimulate your neighbor to activity If
he Is not already alive to the desira
bility of Buch proceedings
tie municipal forces will do their
part in this work, Indeed they are do
ing It now. but we can assist very
greatly.
Remember the declaration of that
mlncnt authority to the' effect that
in order for women to be beautiful
and men to be handsome, they must
look upon pretty things. Moreover,
pretty streets and well-kept yards
help to cause other people to
desire to come and live here.

A Chicago Alderman Owes Hit-Elec
tion to Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy.
“I can heartily and conscientiously
recommend Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy for affections of the throat
nnd lungs,” says Hon. John Shenlck,
220 So Peoria St Chicago. ‘‘Two years
ago during a political campaign
I caught cold after being overheated,
which Irritated my throat nud 1 was
Anally compelled to stop, as I coulJ
not speak aloud. In my extremity a
friend advised me to use Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy. I took two
doses that afternoon and could not
believe my senses when 1 found the
next morning the Inflammation had
largely subsided. I took several dos
es that day, kept right on talking
through the campaign, and I thank
this medicine that I won my seat In
the council.” This remedy is for sale

j Many of the Farmers Cannot Obtain
I Labor Because There is None to
Obtain—Cotton Crop Will be Cut
i Down Materially of 8ame Condi-
| tions Prevails Elsewhere.
(From Tuesday’s Daily.)
Fanners who come to the city
these days complain that It Is almost
Impossible to employ farm labor at
j any price.
Most of the negroes have work at
the saw mills, turpentine stills or
have moved off to town. The small*
or brood are all in school, learning
how to road and write, so that they
will be qualified to vote under the
educational qualification.
The result Is that most of the farm*
ors have done hardly anything to
ward starting off their year’s work.
They are behind all aroun 1 and what
bothers them Is that they will not be
able to employ enough hands to
hurry through with their preliminary
work.
The excessive rains and the scar
city of labor will help cut down the
cotton acreage In this section,
though It remains to be Been how It
will effect other sections.
In the upland cotton belt where
they have no mills or stills, the farm’
erg manage to get enough laborers to
do their work and they generally
manage to keep the cotton acreage!
up <o the top notch. This year will
probably be no exception unless Har-
vie Jordan and his associates can
succeed In holding them In check.
