feet deep, at the rate of twenty feet

At night a solid wall of molten lava
five miles long can be seen reaching
far out into the sea. For some dis
tance the sea water is boiling and
the surf breaking over the fiery
dences of A. King and Q. Barleley j stream.

Officials and Directors in Their Pri-1
vate Cars Reached the City Last!
Evening, Looked Over the Situa
tion Here, and Hiked Out Toward
Alabama This Morning.
A special train of five private cars
bearing officials and directors of the
Atlantic Coast Line, reached the
city last evening and left for the
western end of the line at an early,
hour today.
In the party was Traffic Manager
T. M. Emerson. Vice President E.
Borden, General Superintendent M.,
Riddle and six or seven directors of,
the company.
Their visit to Valdosta was as
quiet as it was mysterious. Nothing
was said of their coining, whiciu
took place iu the hours of night, and
little was knowu of their going—an
event that occurred about half past
seven o’clock.
They looked over the yards here
thoroughly and also took a deep,
long peep into the freight and pas
senger station at this place. Super
intendent Riddle has been convinced
for some time that the depot facili
ties we»e far too small for the grow
ing demands of the city,'in spite of
the fact that they w ere pronounced I
comfortable, commodious and cou*
euient” by the members of the
state railroad commission.
The officials aud directors have
been making a tour of the line, pre
paratory to making some general
improvements all over the system
but It is believed they have some
special improvements to make at
this place. Some of the minor of-
mors as to work of improvement
which the Coast Line expects to un
dertake.
